He does not follow the FSM! All good followers know a pirate hat is the appropriate head gear worthy of its noodlieness.

A strainer is perfectly acceptable headwear in Pastafarianism.
Mine is yellow and has eyeballs like His Noodliness.

u/RandomOlderGuy May 22 '22
Since when? Do I have to trade in my colander?
15
u/Benderover-2 May 22 '22
Since the beginning. Young blasphemous followers are trying to change the ancient ways, from 2005.

Wasn’t there also a kiwi guy who tried to get out of a parking fine by challenging the local council to a trial by combat? Fucking hilarious.
25
u/balancedas May 22 '22
Please link. This sounds absolutely amazing if it isn't an onion article.
51
u/Glitter_berries May 22 '22
It was actually in the UK, my mistake! Still amazing.

26
u/C_yper May 22 '22
Every time they mention his name they have to add some obscure fact about him, ‘JOBLESS’, ‘bachelor’, even ‘former seaman’
19
u/Glitter_berries May 22 '22
It’s like they want him to sound like a lunatic! He’s just invoking trial by combat, not kicking a puppy!

In NZ we can follow (or not follow) any religion we like. There’s even 20 000 plus of us who identify as ‘Jedi’.
325
u/qdp May 22 '22
I had a buddy getting a ordained so he could officiate a wedding, and he tried to become a Jedi Master, but it turns out that those guys really take it seriously and don't hand out certificates like candy. So he become a priest of some atheist church instead. Funny but not the same punch as getting married by a Jedi.
195
u/nasandre May 22 '22
I'm an ordained Pastafarian minister actually so I can officiate weddings, bless the holy Noodles and cast out false prophets. You just need to pay $50 for the registration.

Are you trained in those arts, to call yourselves that? Or just a bunch of wannabes?
edit: I thought it was pretty clear it was a joke, as there is no way to actually train to be a Jedi, because it's not real. Wooshes happen, but this one is pretty bad. Like what in the world did you people even think I meant?

Yet Christians put on life jackets and use boats...

u/World_Voyager May 22 '22
Christians aren't Christ.
To be a jedi you need jedi powers. They claimed to be Jedis not Jedi followers.
Lawyered.

u/Pons__Aelius May 22 '22
To be a jedi you need jedi powers
Says who?
To be a Christian, you follow the teaching of Christ, not perform the miracles he did.
To be Jedian (correct term for the followers of Jedi), you follow the teachings of the Jedi, not to perform the miracles they did.

I feel like most of the "parody religion" people either stopped caring entirely or moved on to The Satanic Temple. I've heard of TST organizing and action, but nothing from FSM.

Because he belongs to The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster where the colander or pasta strainer is the official religious headgear of Pastafarianism. I know a few Pastafarians.

I knew this man as a friend of mine in Christchurch New Zealand. There has been several others around the world too.
He worked hard to get that licence picture and had to argue hard for his case to get it.
For his role as a Pastafatisn Clergyman, he used to dress as a pirate and as Cardinal Sin or the Spanish Inquisition (Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition). He could recite the Parrot Sketch from Monty Python.
He was active in making complaints about quack alternative health remedies and services.
May you be touched by the Great Flying Spaghetti Monster's noodley appendages!

Here in NZ we recognise Pastafarianism as a legit religion (and Jedism) and since the Pasta Strainer is religious wear for Pastafarians it's not legal for them to demand you take it off.

A councilman in NY was sworn into office wearing a strainer because he claimed he was a pastafarian. He would open meetings wearing it as a statement on the separation of church and state.

My uncle did the same... For racist reasons though. He hates that Muslims are allowed to wear a veil for their ID card so he showed up with a pasta strainer to make a point - expecting the authorities to kick up a fuss and not let him. He had this whole speech planned out about them discriminating against his pastafarianism when they allow Muslims to do xyz bla bla bla.
Except they didn't bat an eye at his strainer and let him take the picture. He ended up paying to have another proper ID card done as he was too embarrassed to use the strainer one. Idiot.

A while back, r/atheism was on the front page and for what seemed a long while people kept posting their ID with colanders on their heads.
Religious people of various degrees of zealousness started to get very upset and kept whining about it.
R/atheism is no longer on the front page.

And best of all, it's a completely reasonable accommodation, because the ID still serves its secular purpose of helping identify that it matches the person holding it.
