“2D Persistence of Vision display”
Real holograms use lasers to great an actual 3D effect.

Lol you can always spot marketing videos.
There's as much footage just of people looking at it 'amazed', as of the thing itself.

Put in a big array for a client - they are new to me also but really cool. Wait till you see one - they are starting to enter shop windows in the high street

It definitely seems really cool. That's why I noticed - was watching the video kept trying to see it doing things and it kept showing me people's face amazed mixed in. What I could see looked pretty great though, seeming to float in air.
I wonder how long before an open-implementation of this is available. There's already a lot of people doing interesting addressable led strip stuff with NeoPixel and FastLED.

Thanks for an engineering breakdown. Very interesting to hear what the challenges are to making one.

That's some serious BladeRunner shit right thr. Would put money down for this.

It's just a fan with LEDs on it. It's not a hologram, it's not 3D. It's not bladerunner shit.

Ok. But esthetically, it looks like Bladerunner shit, cuz that what it looked like (to me) in the original movie. The "holograms" in the movie looks just like this. Off color. A lil choppy.

And of course the most interesting thing he can think to project is some cupcake in a short dress. Tech bros really are that dull, it seems.

If you made the fans in a spherical shape would it make a 3D hologram?

So if I get one of these, I can have a holographic 'Joi' (Ana de Armas) in my front room ? :-)
