It will work till you stop lol

Easy peasy. Don't stop!

Eh, even holding a constant velocity could lead to trouble. Best practice would be to keep accelerating.

u/Zadok47 Feb 04 '23
Or, only go up hill.

u/enrohtkcalb Feb 04 '23
Hey, do it long enough and you might meet god. Turn early and you still might meet god. That seems like a win-win to me.

I don't think that will be an issue. It seems that it won't be able to move back. I mean sure they will get even more damage, but it should stop.

u/-Elimakis- Feb 04 '23
Yeah it will stop when it crashes into the back of the car lol, there is nothing holding the trailer in place, just chains to pull it. That's what a trailer hitch is for lol
2
u/CrazyGunnerr Feb 04 '23
Just chains to pull it? Did you check the picture. Plenty of rods, including in a straight line. They will keep it from crashing in. Sure it will damage the car even further, but it won't make it crash in.
Also how can it hold it in place mid air, by just chains?
2
u/-Elimakis- Feb 04 '23
Yeah I'm sure those rods are secured very well to the trunk

u/CrazyGunnerr Feb 04 '23
It's a hot mess, but it will take the hit.
Just because they are complete idiots, doesn't mean what you said will happen.

Hahaha, they have used some type of rod or unistrut to brace the chain to keep it stiff. Looks like it'll do the job perfectly.

Once again we are shown that Home Depot is the most dangerous place in America

u/ositopapasito Feb 04 '23
We caught someone trying to steal ours one day and the cop that came out said thieves would steal a random car and then use the spare tire lock to chain boats and trailers to the car. Never underestimate how smart a meth head is..

They have lots of ever evolving ideas for theft very few for like having a marketable skill or taking care of their family.

I don't see a problem with it. That's clearly a DOT approved load-bearing stick.

Not to mention more (and bigger) safety chains than required by law. I honestly don't see what all the fuss is about. Well, I mean other than the obscured license plate of course.

In their mind it totally calculates and will work. Trailer will just automatically stop when car stops.
Laws of motion don't apply to this genius.

I'm reminded of a video showing the aftermath after a guy's chain snaps off his truck and the hook went through his face

Crazy idea here : trade “that guy who can weld” a case of beer for a trailer hitch.
Will work the exact, same look half as sketchy, and probably still break like they want it to.

I wonder if r/strapitup would make an exception to allow to allow chains for this one. 🤔

That goes beyond redneck engineering. That's 'way-back-in-the-hills' hillbilly engineering!

No problem! It should go off without a hitch!
