Honestly, there are a ton of good games just locked in the past, and while we should get new experiences, old ones aren't too bad either.

u/instantwinner 6d ago
I wish there was a better solution for accessing old games that didn't involve piracy, but now that games have been around for a while we're getting to the point where so many classics are basically impossible to access now without pirating them.

u/mrbubbamac 6d ago
I don't want to risk sounding like a shill but this was a huge reason I chose Xbox over PlayStation this gen.
I have an enormous catalog of games that now span multiple generations, with many of them enhanced to be even better than they originally were.
If I had the time and energy I'd definitely buy a PS5 as well, I think the controller is super cool and they have tons of cool games. And it was so satisfying last night after seeing the Ninja Gaiden announcement in the Direct to put in my disc of Ninja Gaiden Black and play it at 4k and 60 fps.
They got me pretty locked in solely to have one console that accesses most of my games library.
→ More replies26
u/BirdhouseInYourS0ul 6d ago
That’s not a shill, just personal preference. I have Xbox, PS4, and Switch (to be fair I finally just got a switch 3 weeks ago and oh man I love it. Was playing Civ 6 in bed last night on handheld and it was a blast), but this is exactly why there is no comparison for me.
The Xbox ecosystem with backwards compat and gamepass makes it a winner. It has the best controller, great UI/Indie games, and they just make it easy with all the cloud stuff and cross console play.

Part of the reason PC is my preferred platform. Once games get old enough they won't run on modern operating systems there's almost always a fan patch to get them running again. Alternatively GOG buys up a lot of old IP and gets them running legit.

Because the switch is a great way to replay or play older games. I just beat onimusha warlords on switch. Never had a chance to play it before and now I'm hoping they port the other games.

Yeah, John Feldman (Goldfinger's frontman) has spent a substantial amount of his non-Goldfinger time as a producer. Clear example of his producing fingerprints is comparing blink-182's California to Goldfinger's albums.

Will this game have the original music? When I bought the ‘Remastered’ versions on PC years ago, they didn’t have the same music licensed.

u/CBattles6 6d ago
Almost the entire original soundtrack, plus a few new songs. It'll be great finally getting the whole tracks on a Nintendo system.

u/Shad0wF0x 6d ago
According to Kotaku there were 5 songs they couldn't get.
"Here's the full list ot tracks that won't be in the remasters:
- Suicidal Tendencies - "Cyco Vision"
- Unsane - "Committed"
- Anthrax & Public Enemy - "Bring the Noise"
- The High & Mighty - "B-Boy Document '99"
- Alley Life - "Out With The Old" "
16
u/adorenu 6d ago
That is outdated. They were able to get the rights for 3 of those songs in the time between that information and the game coming out. Now "B-boy Document 99" and "Out With The Old" are the only songs that haven't been re-licensed.
9
u/henryforprez 6d ago
That's a bummer. Out with the old is one of my favorites from the soundtrack.

Direct are glorified ads, you don't want too many big things to steal the spotlight from each other.
There is a reason why Nintendo only ever did 2 "Megatron" Directs: the first was the panic Direct as soon as they realized the WiiU was a massive failure, the other is the Switch Launch event when they needed to sell this brand new concept of gaming.
But yeah it's interesting how Activision basically split the Direct by announcing Crash a few days earlier and THS a few days later.
Also Nintendo proved last year that Twitter announcements out of the blue are pretty effective as well.

Not really switch related but this is also great:
People who own the remake digitally on PS4 or Xbox One will be able to upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X version for $10. Those who own the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game — which already cost an extra $10 — will get the upgrade for free.

u/Falco98 6d ago
The various online stores will need to figure this out if they hope to compete with Steam. I don't have to re-buy my entire Steam library when I get a new PC, and I shouldn't have to rebuy my Switch library if I get a Switch 2 (for the sake of argument let's say this will exist at some point).

We are in the same sub where people celebrate a $60 Zelda rerelease with a slight graphic change and a proper control layout. Of course other companies being less terrible will be seen as great. Nintendo fans are accustomed to abuse.

Why TF are they charging for Tony Hawk but Crash 4 is a free upgrade?
Edit: So if you have the Digital Deluxe edition, your upgrade is free. So at least I'm not paying for it. But then there's the weird "Custom parks will carry over in Xbox but not PlayStation".
7
u/Canadian_IvasioN 6d ago
I would assume that the PS5 version just automatically has the deluxe content built in, so that would be their justification. The custom parks thing isn't that weird. Multiple companies have said it's just easier for them to go from xb1 to XbSX.

u/jononarf 6d ago
If the gameplay is somehow 60FPS in handheld, I'll trade in my PS4 copy for this one. Tony Hawk on the go is just...tantalizing.

That's cool! I'm not even interested in skate IRL but somehow I love Tony Hawk games. And I love the music in those games. I don't like the music in the trailer though, I hope they stick to the original music.
27
u/Marieisbestsquid 6d ago
They added much more music in this game, the trailer song is one of them. There's a lot of hip hop and rap to go along with the original songs.
34
u/Locked_Lamorra 6d ago
Prob a good thing, but a nice feature would be the ability to limit it to the old soundtrack only if people wanted that full nostalgia feel.
52
u/Marieisbestsquid 6d ago
You can do that! The game lets you pick exactly which songs are in the playlist at any given time.
And if you want a real full nostalgia feel, since the game by default includes the quality of life moves from other games like Reverts from 3 or Wallplants from Underground, you can also choose to limit your moveset to THPS1 or 2's options.
→ More replies9
u/Locked_Lamorra 6d ago
Ha, that's awesome. I'll def have to do a couple play throughs and try both options. I do also miss the character creator with either 3 or 4 as well, but maybe that'll come again soon.
7
u/Marieisbestsquid 6d ago
There is a create-a-skater as well! You'll get various options to base it off of, then unlock clothes that you buy with ingame cash. Of course, options are different from THPS3 and 4, but I've managed to make a couple fun skaters. I do wonder if they'll bring over the Deluxe Edition or the two cosmetic DLCs.

I found a lot of new artists I like from the new songs. I think my new favorite is IN-TO-IT by DZ Deathrays. Takes me back to high school and partying all summer without a care in the world.
Also my boys Billy Talent are on the soundtrack and they are my FAVORITE band. I was so excited to hear them!
3
u/Marieisbestsquid 6d ago
IN-TO-IT is fantastic, I love most of the new songs they've added. I'm super glad your favorite band's in the game; the closest thing for me was hearing Zebrahead in the game after forgetting about them post-"His World" from Sonic 06, and as I'm trying to combo through the mall I hear the rap and get immediately transported back to being a middle school nerd. :)

It's like loving Guitar Hero without being interested in joining a rock band. They're actually two different interests that can but don't have to overlap.
I've always loved Tony Hawk games myself, starting on a demo disk for THPS 2 and really hoping for a THUG 1+2 remaster/rerelease to come up eventually. I can't even ride a bike because my balance and self-awareness (bodily speaking) are terrible.
28
23
u/JAUNTYa 6d ago
For those that haven't played the game at all and are just now getting interested since it's coming to the Switch, I'm one of many who played the originals and I can assure you that this game replicates those two games perfect, this doesn't have the floaty feeling that THPS 5 did, everything is grounded and feels genuine. There's still a few very minor bugs to figure out, but you have private lobbies online to skate with friends and they have an insane amount of challenges to keep you busy for quite a while.

I'm new to Diablo and have only experienced Diablo III on switch. Is there any significant difference or is it nostalgia/personal preference that has you hyped?
25
u/Dutchillz 6d ago
Diablo II is so different from III that a lot of people got really upset when it came out back in 2011/2012, iirc. To put it very simply, Diablo II is more of a Role Playing Game, while Diablo III* is more Action: both being ARPGs.
So, in conclusion, you could say Diablo II's complexity is what gets me excited about it!
- edit
11
u/Married_MiddleClass 6d ago
As someone who bought Diablo III, I also definitely felt like it was meant to be played with multiple people. I hope Diablo II makes me feel like it’s okay to just play alone.

u/your_mind_aches 6d ago
I think it's valid, because Nintendo basically smushed together the Wii and DS in terms of third party content into one. If it's what you have, you can still play a lot of these games. The worst version of these games, but you can still play it. But also: portable!
For such an underpowered system, the Switch really is a triumph.
32
u/[deleted] 6d ago
A reminder that Crash and Spyro took close to a year to port.
I'm still very curious about which "team" is in charge of this, since Vicarious was absorbed by Blizzard, I wonder if this was something the team was under contract to finish, or if this project was shuffled over to another team.
Eitherway, it's the one darn game I want on Switch, so I'll try my best to be patient.

Companies have to pay nintendo to be in the Directs. It's only worth it if you think you need the extra advertising. But if you have something like Blizzcon to announce your game, or you have Mr. Tony Hawk tweeting about it, you probably don't need to be in the Direct - just wait for the Direct and announce a couple days later for free.
If the Neon White people relied on just a tweet to announce things, it wouldn't reach nearly as many people, so being in the Direct is more worth it for them
