I'm going to assume, based on the fact that you shoot things in this game, that you have to shoot the square block with a difficulty on it to start the game?

299

u/Cuttyflame123 Someone Jul 30 '21

just look at the first few min of this https://youtu.be/wWlpxOGAETU?t=60

264

u/Mista-Smegheneghan Jul 30 '21

Ah neat, thanks! Yeah I hafta imagine that dude in the review was trolling; the alternative suggests that they're so stupid they can't figure out how to walk through a portal.

u/gbushprogs Jul 30 '21

Hang out with the general public much?

I'm so glad we don't have one way straws.

26

u/Mista-Smegheneghan Jul 30 '21

I hope for the best cause the alternative seriously doesn't bear thinking about.

Wow.

11

Its actually pretty cool. Primarily designed for disabled persons to allow easier drinking.

Oh yea my "wow" was of being impressed at the invention for sure

u/Luminum__ Jul 30 '21

Sadly not the case. Take a look at some of this person's other reviews

12

u/Mista-Smegheneghan Jul 30 '21

This guy REALLY needs to learn that not every game is for him. And I mean, he kinda has? But he doesn't need to have a whole to-do about it. Like just... refund the game. No need to badmouth it on the way out.

4

u/ZincAzN Jul 31 '21

actually went through his steam review history, he seems the type that if the game doesn't get to "the point" within 5 minutes or less it gets dropped.

the most comical one to me was that he put a negative review on a visual novel but commended it for being a good visual novel, but not a game

26

u/thesaurusrext Jul 30 '21

It could be an affectation gamers have developed where they act like they can't get/understand a thing, just to have something to talk about. It's like how everyone pretends they can't pronounce a word or a name, so they can seem awkward-funny going uh uh what's that how do you say that. It makes up 90% of the content on low tier twitch channels (and fucking stupid, imo.)

I've seen game reviews on youtube where the guy clearly just hates the product so he'll go "how do I do this thing, the game is not telling me how to do thing" and the thing will be something basic that any idiot could figure out if they were giving it an actual try or the benefit of the doubt.

20

u/Mista-Smegheneghan Jul 30 '21

Right, trying to find an out to explain why they don't wanna play this game, even though they said they'd give it a fair go, and they don't wanna just say "it ain't for me". It's difficult for some people to just say that; it's always a problem with the game, not them.

7

u/[deleted] Jul 30 '21

Can't get views from "not for me", ya know

6

u/Mista-Smegheneghan Jul 30 '21

bloody metric-based system...

3

u/Alexaxas Jul 30 '21

The metric system! I knew it was them! Even when it was the bears, I knew it was them!

3

u/AmbiguousAlignment Jul 30 '21

So I'm an IT guy and I 100% think it's possible they couldn't figure it out.

God, that UI is... Frustrating. The orange color and the font on top of that pattern... Plus the blue flashing whenever something happens is just headache inducing.

14

u/Ssyl Jul 30 '21

He was able to set the flashing to 10% in the options menu, and it was still a little too much.

30

u/one_is_the_loneliest Jul 30 '21

Yeah, that's something I don't miss from 90s PC gaming...

2

u/LolYouFuckingLoser Jul 30 '21

Then definitely avoid 90's gaming throwbacks

3

u/cool_weed_dad Jul 30 '21

It’s an homage to 90’s games like Doom, it’s very much a purposeful design choice mimicking that style. You don’t have to like it but it’s absolutely nailing the aesthetic it’s going for.

3

u/Meior Jul 30 '21

Oh I know! I still play Doom and Quake. Doesn't change that it's a bit of an eyesore though lol.

But you're absolutely right, they are definitely nailing the look. My first thoughts went straight to the games of those era and made me want to buy the game for the nostalgia.

4

u/LolYouFuckingLoser Jul 30 '21 edited Jul 30 '21

It's to make it easily visible since the game is so fast-paced. You'll be viewing those with your peripheral vision more than just looking right at it, it works really well. The game is incredibly well made.

Edit: Have y'all even played the fucking game? I've almost 100%'d the sonuvabitch and didn't notice the HUD as much as you all did in this one screenshot lol

14

u/LawlessCoffeh Jul 30 '21

"Playback on other websites has been disabled by the video owner."

Just wanted to say fuck you if you do this I'm disliking your video if you do.

Anyways that is a slightly esoteric difficulty selector to be fair.

2

u/Cuttyflame123 Someone Jul 31 '21

yeah thats dumb, i just searched for amid evil gameplay and choose a random video and it seemed perfect to show the confusion. didnt really check after posting it if you could watch it with res

14

u/TheMadolche Jul 30 '21

That game looks amazing.

54

u/riga_mortus Jul 30 '21

That difficulty selector is ridiculous, even the reviewer got confused.

The easy difficulty is a gate with a portal.

The medium difficulty is a gate with a pit between it and the portal. He walks into the pit where it says "this is not your path". This essentially means "if you can't jump this pit, maybe you should stick to easy", it's just really vague (exactly what you don't want when it comes to a game setting). The second time he jumps over the pit and turns back anyway because the game suggested he try another difficulty.

I think this is a case of trying to be too smart, a simple difficulty selector menu works just fine.

44

u/BlueDraconis Jul 30 '21 edited Jul 30 '21

Yeah, the jump seems pretty hard. It's like you need to do an almost perfect running jump in order to make it. And this is only for medium difficulty.

It seems like the game tried to reference Quake 1. But in Quake's level selection, the jump to enter the hard difficulty is easier than Amid Evil's medium (though there's a lava trap that kills you if you don't make it.). And if you want to play Quake at medium, you simply just walk into the portal.

TBH, I feel that this is a recurring problem in indie games. They try to make their games similar to the old classics, but many times they either crank the difficulty too high or make some weird design decisions that makes me go back and play the classics instead because they're still easier and more accessible than these indie games.

28

u/riga_mortus Jul 30 '21

This context is pretty important, I didn't understand the reference. The gameplay as a menu kinda works in this case since its paying tribute.

Big difference between the two though is simplicity, as you mentioned. In Quake, you just make the short jump and you're in. You don't fall into a pit, double back and get told to try a different path. My first thought was "oh, this isn't really a difficulty selector, it's some Stanley Parable type shit where only one of the difficulties is the way forward".

The fact that it's even a discussion point just shows how poorly executed Amid Evil's difficulty selector is.

13

u/KaptainKetchup Jul 30 '21

The level design in Amid Evil is pretty complex and also has tons of hidden secrets that require exploration and platforming/light puzzles to find. If you can't make your way to the medium portal you probably should stick to easy for a first playthrough since like most boomer shooters it doesn't hold your hand in the slightest. This is also present in the difficulty selection level as there's a hidden difficulty portal and bonus boss to find.

6

u/Fhaarkas Jul 30 '21

Bingo. The difficulty selection is trying to teach players how to move and jump, as games from the 90s often did.

I thought the halls are unnecessarily long, but other than that it's a pretty solid intro room. Not its (or the players') fault if some people born in the past 20 years don't get it. Games have been spoonfeeding players since like the 2000s.

5

u/BlueDraconis Jul 31 '21 edited Jul 31 '21

If you can't make your way to the medium portal you probably should stick to easy for a first playthrough

If this review is accurate, the only things affected by difficulty in this game are how many enemies and pickups will be present.

Funneling players into easy mode based on their platforming skills when the game's difficulty doesn't affect platforming difficulty at all isn't ideal.

Say, if the player's great at shooting and killing things, but pretty shit at platforming and navigating mazes, then being funneled into easy difficulty would be worse for them. They'd still be frustrated by the level design, and also be bored with the low difficulty of enemies.

Also, Amid Evil seems to be inspired more by Heretic/Hexen. If so, they should've used a normal difficulty select menu like Heretic/Hexen. Having Quake's difficulty select room while the game doesn't have the qualities of Quake makes it feel a bit hollow.

As for 90's shooters. I feel that the Doom and Quake games had nice flowing level designs that aren't that easy to get lost in. On the other hand, most of the rest of "Doom Clones" had convoluted levels, keys hidden in unintuitive places, hard to see switches that blends into the background, etc.

You might like them, but there's a reason Doom and Quake were among the most popular shooters in that era, and why these types of games ultimately fell out of favor to linear corridor shooters like Half-Life. The level designs of these games were too frustrating to be fun for a lot of people.

The genre had fun flowing level designs pretty early on in Doom, but imo, the rest of the games in the genre failed to learn and improve on that.

Then Half-Life came along, gave people what they wanted, and stole the show.

Idk, seems pretty practical to me. Often with a difficulty slider I can set it too low or high because I don't know how difficult this game is. This gave a practical example, it just wasn't instantly obvious that was what it was doing.

20

u/thesaurusrext Jul 30 '21

Or just different that stands out. Anyone can make a menu. But a menu that includes a lava trap? That's something to share.

-7

u/vincentpontb Jul 30 '21

I've never heard about this before and the only time it's ever been mentionned is about how poorly made it is.

Not a great exemple of "something to share".

I'm a fan of hard games and difficulty, but this is just unintuitive and confusing. Bad game design.

8

u/thesaurusrext Jul 30 '21

i havent tried it but hey we're talking about it and im going to look at the steam page, so .... advertising accomplished.

-1

u/TheDemonHauntedWorld Jul 30 '21

Not only that... it's unnecessarily confusing... wastes players time... and it eliminates the option to increase or decrease the difficulty while playing.

It's trying to do something novel.

Reviewer was clearly being ironic as well.

-4

Looking at that it is unnecessary complex. Instead of just set it up in the menu, they had to put something like that in game? Why? It looks bad.

That's why I think they should increase at least 30 minutes for the refund window. And it's not just graphics settings. I sometimes go look up in pcgamingwiki.com to check for potential issues and fixes. Which means I have to spend my first minutes restarting the game if it's a particularly complicated problem to fix.

41

u/Lawnmover_Man Jul 30 '21

That's pretty much why I couldn't refund Borderlands 3. It took a long time to load regenerating GPU stuff every time, and I had to try some GPU settings for it to run well. Then, it crashed a few times while playing with buddies, not only for me, but also for them.

So I didn't really had anywhere near 2 hours gameplay, just roughly one. The rest was the game going mad.

6

u/PM_ME_YOUR_PIZZAPIC Jul 30 '21

When I first played Ark, it took me like an hour and a half before I was able to join a game because the server browser is such a mess. If it wasn't for the fact that I was getting the game to play it with a friend, I likely would have refunded it because 30 min just isn't enough time for me to decide if I like it

2

u/Tradz-Om Jul 31 '21

The steam refund feature isn't for trying games out, rarely you may buy a game and decide it isn't for you but the main point of refunding is for problems with the game and the like

13

u/Chupacabra_herder Jul 30 '21

Or games like flight sim where you start it up and it makes you download for 36 hours.

8

u/-SammyP6- Jul 30 '21

Thoose style of games are such bullshit

2

u/The_Turk2 Jul 30 '21

Exactly. I just got Deux Ex: Mankind Divided, and my game kept crashing when I opened up the storage (tab). I tried looking around for answers, trying different things, no dice. In the end I was reaching the end of the 2 hours trial window, so instead of trying again to get it to work, I simply refunded the game.

almost half an hour

wait am i fucking stupid? i've always thought that something like "played 0.5 hours" meant that you've played 50 minutes, not half an hour.

oh my god I've had it wrong since the beginning

115

u/freariose Jul 30 '21

How....? That would make 0.7 hours 70 minutes, which is more than an hour.

45

u/iamtoe Jul 30 '21

I once had a manager tell us that we needed to enter our hours worked like this. People tried to explain it to him, but I was all for it as long as they paid me for the time I wrote down.

16

u/ProfDumm Jul 30 '21

The system we have at work randomly switches between dividing the hour in minutes or in hundredth, so you always have to look if there is a : or a , if you don't want to get confused.

9

u/doublebass120 Jul 30 '21

Who wrote that? Satan?

4

u/ProfDumm Jul 30 '21

When it was programmed it was just hundredth, then it was updated to show minutes instead, but somehow it occasionly switches back.

2

u/DravenFx Jul 30 '21

Sounds like my works timesheet system called Kronos (aka MyTime).

Drives me nuts switching between the hour and hundredths.

19

u/Psychological-Scar30 Jul 30 '21

Eh.. dude? If you worked for example 30 minutes, it would be 0.5 normally, but 0.3 under the insane system... I'm not sure I'd be so happy to get paid for less time than I put in

6

u/borari Jul 30 '21

I’ve worked at a place with an idiot manager. So we didn’t “clock in” like you think. We recorded time spent on a job in one system. We entered our total hours worked in a different system. We recorded time spent on a job site in 15 minute chunks, reported as .25 hours for 25 minutes, .5 for 30 minutes, .75 for 45 minutes, and 1 hour for 60 minutes. This system was used to invoice the client.

Now, in this separate separate system we entered our total daily time in for internal payroll. We could be on 5 job sites a day, plus administrative overhead for writing reports. We entered this time as hours and minutes, no decimal. The fucking imbecile manager didn’t understand fractions, and would flip out if the reported fractional hours and reported minutes didn’t match. Not like, match when converted to their like system, but actually literally match. So if I reported 1.50 hours on site A, and 1.5 hours on site B, I needed to put 2 hours and 100 minutes, which would result in my getting paid for an extra 40 minutes of work.

I tried explaining to this fucking moron that this made no sense. I tried to get an explanation as to why, under this asinine system, a whole number represented 1 hour as normal but .75 represented 15 minutes more than an hour. He couldn’t explain. It was very easy to tell that this was something many people had argued with him about, and he was just defending his view out of habit at that point. I just said fuck it, got my extra pay, and bounced to a better job as soon as I was able. This was also a guy who just pulled out a Beretta at a bar, but at like 4pm when it was still a family restaurant atmosphere, and just started racking the slide, ejecting the bullets and sending them skittering all over the table. The booth across from us had a toddler and a 7-8 year old sitting at it. This was a day before I was putting in my notice. I just left without asking for the check and called the cops lol. Fucking mouth breathers.

4

u/Psychological-Scar30 Jul 30 '21

Ah, I guess that makes sense and it's probably also the OP's situation, thanks for explanation.

This was also a guy who just pulled out a Beretta at a bar (..., cut for brevity)

Jesus christ, glad nothing happened in the end. Also, good call with the cops. And with getting a different job.

2

u/eckzhall Jul 30 '21

My old job had us use tenths of an hour, which are 6 min increments, so if you clocked out at 5:42p you'd write 17.7 on your timesheet.

Not really relevant at all I just think it's an interesting system.

3

u/Kalcomx Jul 30 '21

If you think about it, it's actually just decimal notation rounded to one decimal.

2

u/Venrexx Jul 30 '21

0.5 is half of 1.0, which is why it's used to describe half numerically when using decimals. 50 minutes would be something like 0.83, if measuring out of 60 minutes.

i swear to God, i knew it was AMID EVIL , yup, no doubt about it, freaking awesome game that tried to mimic the original quake startup for difficulty and level, but yeah, i won't laugh at the guy, after playing it then stopping for a while and coming back, i found a hard time figuring out what level i was in......and how to reach it again in that bit confusing hub area.

95

u/ChristieFox Jul 30 '21

That's AMID EVIL? I loved the first room the reviewer here is so against.

37

u/THELEBANESEUNBOXER Jul 30 '21

yeah, sadly i got it in early access, and when i came back to continue the game when it was done, i got lost, since it was a long time and had no idea where to go next, but him at the start doing this is absurd!

11

u/DeadBabyJuggler Jul 30 '21 edited Jul 30 '21

117

u/RKB533 Jul 30 '21

I guess this is why a lot of games these days are often incredibly simplistic, don't rely on you being able to think, and tell you exactly where to go and what to do.

32

u/mailman985 Jul 30 '21

Playing through the most recent Paper Mario now, and I just want Olivia to shut up and let me do my thing.

13

u/DieDungeon Jul 30 '21

Skyward Sword suffers so much from this. It's a shame, because it's a decent (if easy) Zelda game once you learn to just skip all dialogue.

6

u/ParusiMizuhashi Jul 30 '21

At least the remake makes most of Fi's "help" optional

1

u/DieDungeon Jul 30 '21

Yeah, but there's still a bit too much bullshit. A zelda game doesn't need this much forced dialogue. Every five meters you get pulled into a different conversation that just doesn't need to exist - it either is yet another big sign telling the player "do x" or is some stupid line that adds nothing to the game. What's worse is that (even in the remake) only half of it is skippable.

49

u/bagehis Jul 30 '21

It isn't always the gamers, it is the journalists who don't know simple game mechanics and can't follow the simple instructions but loudly give feedback. Watching them play the game really drives home the problem and it's usually not the game. Sadly, they aren't called out nearly enough for their incompetence.

25

u/ThePrussianGrippe Jul 30 '21

To be fair to that guy he mostly just covers industry news, he’s only done a handful of reviews and way apparently the only person they had on site to try out the gameplay demo.

7

u/ilep Jul 30 '21

I am guessing button sequences are hard for people who for the first time pick up a game. IIRC someone studied where non-players struggle for the first time and it is that they can't yet handle quick inputs required to play a game.

9

u/Pika_Fox Jul 30 '21

Its in large part because theyre given a large size of games to get through, and often genres outside what they generally enjoy.

If i was forced to play a horror game, id also be frustrated and likely hate the controls and mechanics and not know wtf im doing... Because i hate horror games. But i need to sit down and play it for a long while because im literally forced to.

Platformers require skill, so if youve never played one before and get one slapped across your desk... Good luck.

3

u/Persona_Alio Jul 30 '21

If you've never played a platformer before, then the company shouldn't be assigning that to you for you to write an article about it

3

u/Pika_Fox Jul 30 '21

Thats not how that works. Ideally, sure, but thats not realistic given the sheer number of games and how few professional reviewers there are.

6

u/MetalBawx Jul 30 '21

That's why jurnos hate From Software, they wouldn't put in a super easy mode for them in Dark Souls.

u/R3D3-1 Jul 30 '21

To be fair though, that's not always on the user.

"PS. I can't read, so I made my mom write this review"

17

u/MaDDeuss Jul 30 '21

Jesus. That's one special nutcase..

50

u/Valith_Maltair Jul 30 '21

I love how he writes "I'll try again in 60 years when my time is less valuable"

For me it's the opposite. The older I get, the more precious my time is to me. Every day that passes means I now have less of it.

2

u/thekraken8him Jul 30 '21

My thought as well. Never once have I felt like I had more free time than I used to.

That's the "Saves are stored in the balls" dev. He's a legend

30

u/Magyarharcos Jul 30 '21

AMID EVIL, im guessing?

People nowadays.... Sigh

14

u/thekraken8him Jul 30 '21

No floating quest marker telling me what to do every moment 1/10.

3

u/Magyarharcos Jul 30 '21

Also, can i just go on a short rant and bitch how much i hate quest markers?

They are ridiculous. Oh, yea, i deffinitely need a market to see an NPC standing in the open, or over levers, switches buttons whatever...

Maybe im old, but i seriously hate markers.

2

u/thekraken8him Jul 30 '21

It helps in open world games with massive maps, but completely unnecessary in linear games. Proper lighting and level design is enough to push people in the right direction.

That being said, some games let you turn them off now which is nice. Options are always best since preferences vary. I remember giving up on a lot of games as I kid because I couldn't figure out how to progress, then it seemed obvious when I revisited as a teen/adult.

87

u/Banake Jul 30 '21

I mean, this sounds as that Cuphead review.

28

u/Khaare Jul 30 '21

That guy wasn't mad at the game, at least.

43

u/BigBoss477 Jul 30 '21

It’s probably a gaming journalist’s Steam account.

4

u/WHISPER_ME_HEIGHT Jul 30 '21

I thought too but after watching a video of the game I get

It's a vague selection level where if you haven't played the old Doom games it can be quite weird, especially if you go to medium difficulty section and constantly fall into the pit because you haven't mastered the jumping mechanics yet making you wonder as to what the hell is going on

75

u/JAMMAXx64 Jul 30 '21

This guy has a future in gaming “journalism”.

31

u/DANNYonPC Jul 30 '21

heard polygon have showed interest

-33

u/Ale_Hodjason Jul 30 '21

Hilarious and original joke

5

u/fistymcbuttpuncher Jul 30 '21

Is 'game journalist bad at games' the new moniker/redflag of GamersTM ?

6

u/Ale_Hodjason Jul 30 '21

Cuphead was released in 2017. It is now 2021.

3

u/fistymcbuttpuncher Jul 30 '21

Isn't there some rot in the doom fandom about it too though? I think its spread like a cancer in multiple fandoms now.

Damn, that must be the dark souls of difficulty selection menues.

2

u/TurtzMGurtz Jul 30 '21

Its not that he couldn't do it, his time is just "too valuable" right now lol.

2

u/TheDenast Jul 30 '21

Can't spend more than two minutes selecting difficulty, my time is too valuable

Also:

Probably spends several minutes planning and writing a review on Steam

2

u/BagalhetaTraquina Jul 30 '21

Oh I've seen this one on Dave's Twitter. Absolutely hilarious and most likely a troll. It's just too good, too perfect.

For those curious, the game is AMID EVIL, published by New Blood (the guys behind DUSK and who will be launching Gloomwood soon).

2

u/Gohgt Jul 30 '21

He‘s part of the 40% that don‘t have the archievement for finishing the tutorial.

2

u/Spaghetti_Noodling Jul 30 '21

I think I may buy this game out of sheer respect for the developer's response lol

2

u/Mattcules Jul 30 '21

The fact that people are defending this review really blows me away.

2

u/Affectionate_Rub5564 Jul 31 '21

My mans dumb as fuck

2

u/mfafahim Jul 31 '21

I can see where the guy is coming from honestly, I've never played that game or games similar to that before (saw game play from a YouTube link someone posted). I'd say to help make it easier even though the tab thing to show portals is shown quite early, maybe even earlier would help? Like right when you get into the game, that way if anyone doesn't know where they are going you can't blame it on the game or lack of experience of similar games, the person would just be an idiot.

8

u/[deleted] Jul 30 '21

Amid Evil kicked ass, this guy is just a toolbag.

2

u/el3mel Jul 30 '21

This can't be serious ? He must be trolling and knows this review will spread everywhere on internet or something.

I don't want to imagine him actually taking such matter serious, lol.

A lot of Steam reviews feel like that, trolls and jokes from people who think themselves funny.

2

u/xLoLoco Jul 30 '21

We found Dean Takahashi steam account.

2

u/StereoCatPicture Jul 30 '21

They were searching for the difficulty setting appropriate for them, the easiest difficulty setting, also called "exit".

-1

u/guswang Jul 30 '21

Looks like me: I bought Dark Souls 3 and I can't progress after playing it for less than 1 hour. I just got stuck and can't find anything open or anywhere to go.

14

u/deltafire59 Jul 30 '21

In case you're interested in playing more (Dark Souls fan here), if you're at the firelink shrine - you can rest at the bonfire then travel to the next destination. Then the path should be as straightforward as a dark souls game does. Maybe that'd help you find you're way. If not, I apologize for wasting your time.

3

u/guswang Jul 30 '21

You are not wasting my time. Thannks for the tip buddy!

2

u/one_is_the_loneliest Jul 30 '21

I haven't played 3, but I rage quit 1 because I couldn't find any bonfires after Firelink Shrine. It wasn't until years later that I realized the point where I quit was like right around the corner from the next bonfire...

Sometimes looking up a walkthrough is the best path forward, at least to get started.

2

u/TehRiddles Jul 30 '21

How did you manage that? You keep moving forwards until you reach the glaive in the middle of an arena and interact with it. Did you not go over to look at it?

2

u/guswang Jul 30 '21

Honestly, I don't even remember, last time I played was feb 2018. I will download again and follow you guys advices. Thanks!

5

u/Potato_Shaped_Burns Jul 30 '21

Ds3 was designed around players that have played the previous entries, if you get stuck in any point dont feel shame in looking it up or just watch a walkthrough.

Dark soul games are very obtuse by design.

u/GeovaunnaMD Jul 30 '21

Motion blur should always be disabled by default, who the heck plays with that crap on, also any cinematic filter crap. If your playing at 4K you don’t need antialiasing, performance hit vs gain you get very minimal but at 1080 sure it’s worth the trade.

game journalist moment

1

u/rgwashere Jul 30 '21

I'm guessing that it's Amid Evil, one of the best games of all time?

2

u/DANNYonPC Jul 30 '21

yes

1

u/rgwashere Jul 30 '21

Dude it's literally just going down a staircase and a straight walk for easy difficulty, jumping over something for the medium difficulty and jumping on moving blocks for hard difficulty (and a hidden difficulty which is extremely easy to find), it's about a minute to do all 4

How is this absolute beta male stuck in the difficulty selection room lmao

2

u/Spy007dr Jul 31 '21

Man's not even a Beta male. Could very well be a Delta male or an Echo male

1

u/ScionoicS Jul 31 '21

Menu's set up like they're a game level have never been a succesful UX paradigm.

Nothing about this review is illegitimate. These are the kind of reviews developers should expect if they turn a selection menu into some kind of interactive environment.

-3

u/SlightlyJason Jul 30 '21

This is kinda gross by the developer.

If you design a game where people can’t figure out how to pass something as basic as the difficulty select screen, that’s shit design.

Shouldn’t be praised for a petty comeback instead of fixing their shit design.

8

u/Krypton091 Jul 30 '21

being an incompetent player doesn't mean the game is inherently bad

3

u/PM_ME_YOUR_PIZZAPIC Jul 30 '21

One bad review doesnt mean the game is bad either, do you know how statistics work? The whole point of reviews is to amass multiple opinions from several users. If the guy finds that the difficulty selection is confusing, it's perfectly valid to leave a bad review. If he's the only person in the world who thinks it's confusing then the single bad review isn't really gonna matter, but if multiple people think so then the multiple bad reviews might be a tip off that the menu needs to change

0

u/Krypton091 Jul 30 '21

see this is what the jester steam award is for
