I feel like Free to Play titles should be exempt from this category Meta

Wtf? That would destroy the market.

The keys' prices would dump below the cases' prices

What do you mean "make the cases the big bucks"? Valve doesnt price the cases, the market does. Valve has no power over the prices of cases.

Cases are cheap because everyone can get them by playing the game, why would such common items be expensive on the market?

Back in the day in TF2, item drops were quite expensive and some people made servers filled with bots just to get them. In time that made the drops so cheap that farming them would not be worth it.

Yeah I don’t think cases need changing. I’d prefer them to just make one universal key though so you aren’t ever stuck with a key that can’t open a case. Like why is there a chroma 1,2 and 3 case key not just a chroma case key?

Didn’t know that they weren’t fixed, you’re absolutely right then. Thought I agree with the comment below you about the key that opens everything in the category it fits into.

Germans

5

u/Carius98 Nov 25 '21

Am german. Can confirm that i know someone who plays that

6

u/sh1ftyswar Nov 25 '21

Haha, I had only said that because I saw a meme about all these obscure Sim games coming out for the German market. Like forklift truck driver etc... I think the joke was yall like to work.

A LOT of people actually, I mean it peaked at 96,402 players (according to steam charts), it's insane.

u/AhmadWehbe Nov 24 '21

Yuup, should be in a category called "Most Played" or "Top Played"!

12

u/nikolai2960 Nov 25 '21

Honestly it just makes Farming Simulator even more impressive

u/XangoldMan Nov 24 '21

Don't they sell stuff?

48

u/wthiswwy Nov 25 '21

Yes and it's the same money but I think poster is trying to isolate buying a game to be different from micro-transactions, which is again buying the game things in mini payments.

Totally free games are never on that list.

14

u/XangoldMan Nov 25 '21

Right, agree, they should call "Top grossing" or something like that

5

u/JukePlz Nov 25 '21

Totally free games (no microtransactions) are never on that list because there are not totally free games in Steam's top played games either.

Right now it's imposible for anyone to tell if a free game being there means "made a lot of money with microtransactions" or "someone clicked the install button and now the license is in their account". It's a number of sales vs gross profits thing, that they never explicitly stated how it works.

1

u/XangoldMan Nov 25 '21

That's the valve's way

9

u/Sotyka94 Nov 25 '21

in this case top seller = biggest revenue

5

u/loopuleasa https://steam.pm/1ctcfk Nov 25 '21

But for us the consumers browsing the store, we don't care

It's even an anti-signal, since those games have microtransactions, which we hate

1

u/atTAGG Nov 27 '21

If they are genuinely tracking microtransaction revenue as well and not just game downloads, then this is fair. I enjoy hating on it, but it's fair.

6

u/Mortimer_Smithius Nov 25 '21

Csgo is a top seller isn't it? Millions of people have the payed version

2

u/Katanda https://s.team/p/kvhq-wr Nov 25 '21

The money is always right.

1

u/IDONTUNDERSTANDTECH Nov 25 '21

Cs go is not exactly free anymore

1

u/BoyRed_ Nov 25 '21

i like the battlefield deals

UP TO 0% OFF

1

u/SnooCapers815 Nov 25 '21

Why is that so?

1

u/GeeWilakers421337 Nov 27 '21

You're forgetting these "purchases" give developers clues about what costumers want. Look at the time before free games and you will see what dev's come up with without help.
