By popular demand, we've got custom flair!
Not only is this the thing you requested, but it is the answer to all your prayers! You can now edit your flair to your favorite TMBG-related phrases. We realize that everyone's excited and confused but please ensure that all flairs are appropriate. If everything right goes wrong again, we'll have to remove this functionality. So, be you! Be what you're like, be like yourself, and have a wonderful time!
For now you can type your own ideas using the "edit flair" option next to your name, choose "custom flair" and then edit the text in the box below (remember to click "save"). But, we'll also be adding additional flair templates over time. You can assign whichever (appropriately TMBG-related) flair you'd like, though we still reserve the right to call you Mom. Feel free to share and upvote flair template suggestions in the comments of this post. Now let's get this over with!

Join Us vinyl issue
I have gotten three of the same album on vinyl and on all of them, 2082 is scratched. Is it supposed to be this way? Is there something about the track that makes it harder to print? Is the universe out for me?

Good songs for ringtone?
I know some songs like "My other phone is a boom car" were designed as ringtones, but I'm more so looking for full songs that work well as ringtones.
Minimum Wage is a really good example of what I mean. High energy from the very start, iconic, and under a minute. If nothing doing within however long, I'll just use it for the ringtone.

Replicant & Now I Know
I love these 2 songs because of how nice and relaxing they sound, are there any other songs by TMBG with this same feel?

TMBG fandom demographic?
hi there! this is my first time posting on this sub. I don’t run into a lot of they might be giants fans in my day to day life and my friends always joke that it’s because they’re all middle aged men (for reference, I am in college). I guess I mostly ask because I am going to their Birmingham show in March and would really like to know who to expect there!

Review Of The Month: Mountain Flowers (January 3)
The first month of 2023 was probably my favorite month of reviews so far, so I hope you enjoy the best of the bunch!
TMBG Randomizer #130: Mountain Flowers
Song: Mountain Flowers
Album: Album Raises New and Troubling Questions
Release Date: 2016
As a very prolific band, TMBG naturally has a lot of B-sides and rarities. And due to all of those B-sides and rarities, TMBG naturally has a couple of lengthy collections, showcasing various songs that would have otherwise gone unseen. A few notable collections include: Then: The Earlier Years, They Got Lost, the TMBG Unlimited series, Cast Your Pod to the Wind, and of course, Album Raises New And Troubling Questions. Today’s song comes to us from ARNATQ, and was only ever released here. Say hello to one of my favorite B-sides: “Mountain Flowers”.
Moments of Interest: Normally when I go over the interesting parts of a song, I struggle to find interesting aspects that aren’t only mildly interesting. However, for this song, it will be hard for me to narrow it down… it’s a very interesting song, to say the least. Anyways, the main instrument used in this bite-sized track is the keyboard, but the final form of this instrument is strange and distorted. It sounds like a backwards, half-violin-half-synth thing, but it acts like a normal instrument musically. This was definitely one of the main draws for me. Throughout the song, at certain times, these weird, high-pitched organs burst on to the scene, especially during the little interlude half-way through the song. In the first half, they only show up during the “I know” refrain, whereas during the second half, it’s exactly the opposite; the organ plays little riffs and rhythms all throughout the verses, but stops once the refrain closes out the song. I also just want to add that the bass is super present in the background, and super catchy as well. It’s a simple part, but with almost unlimited funk flowing out. This song is like the super funky tune you can’t stop listening to on repeat, mixed with the weird, experimental music your friend tries to get you to listen to.
Favorite Aspect: I… have decided to abstain from choosing a favorite aspect of this song. I know, I know, I’m not supposed to do that. But I love this song too much! Every single part: every instrument, every little detail, the mixing, it’s all amazing! So instead, I will cheat the system and say: the song itself is my favorite part.
Score: If you couldn’t already tell, I was always going to give this teeny-tiny song from the backwaters of TMBG’s discography a PERFECT. I can totally understand, however, how strange of a choice that is. But I’ll bet that each and every one of you has a song that no one has heard of that you’ll defend to the death.

How do I differentiate Linnell and Flansburgh's voices?
I need to sound like more of a nerd than I already am. I'm a new-ish fan, only started listening to TMBG in the summer last year. I want to utterly perplex my classmates at school with my inane knowledge.

Thoughts on Penultimate Tracks
2nd thought dump this month! I can't wait to have a rule against me. Anyways...
I was thinking about penultimate tracks in albums, and how they go with the final track. I'm both bored and a nerd, which is a dangerous combo.
I haven't listened to every album yet-so this will be about like 8 at most. I don't re-write stuff in thought dumps, so who knows if that's right.
- The Day - Rhythm Section Want Ad
Yeah, this one's pretty good. Starts soft before getting loud. Good Flans track. I like it, but it's one of 2 Pink tracks that's not on my likes(that and Toddler Hi-way, which I don't think people will contest me on?)
- Snowball in Hell - Kiss Me, Sun Of God
Snowball in Hell is an amazing Flans track. Also how it goes from "This job makes me suicidal but it's all I got" to "I am the 1%, fuck you" is great to me. mwah.
- They Might Be Giants - Road Movie To Berlin
I like this one a lot, although not as much as Lincoln's ending. But it's not bad at all.
- Fingertips - Space Suit
Fingertips is its own post, the kind I will never make. But it's great, and instrumental Space Suit right after is great. Love this one.
- Stompbox - End of the Tour
I like how Stompbox has a fake ending. I like fake endings a lot, also Thermostat(that's unrelated, kinda). But Stompbox uses up all your energy so End of the Tour can be as calm as it is and also amazing.
- I Can Hear You - The Bells
If you don't care about I Can Hear You, i don't blame you. But it's a fun experimental track. And The Bells is a bombastic(?) closer, high energy. First one like that since Pink.
- Stalk of Wheat - I Can't Hide from my mind
Fuck Stalk of Wheat. It single-handedly ruins the flow of The Spine for me. All it should've ever been was the bonus track on a kids album it became. If it weren't for that, top 3 album easy. I love everything else about The Spine except track 15. God, i hate it so much.
- Feign Amnesia - The Mesopotamians
I have no problem here. Good Flans pop(?) song into great Linnell historical closer.
- We're the Replacements - Don't Let's Start
Haha, misc. T! anyways, i'm ok with the replacements. it uses up energy. having Don't Let's Start as the closer is a really interesting idea that really paid off.
My phone's lagging like hell, so this is the end of the thought dump. Tune in next time to waste even more of your time. Who gives a fuck what I think, anyways? I didn't even talk about Mink Car.
