It would be funny if it was real. When I realized it’s fake, most of the humor was gone, IMO
*Edit: holy shit, I can't keep responding to every dummy who responds with the same "I guess you hate movies and TV shows because they're fake too!! tee hee"
The humor for comedy shows doesn't come from the viewer being tricked into thinking it's real. Nobody watches SNL and thinks it's real. Why did the creator of this video make it look as real as possible? Because they know that if the viewer knows it's fake, the humor is gone.

u/sillyadam94 Didn't Expect It Jun 29 '22
This is what we call “situational comedy.”
For something with the budget of a ring cam, it’s pretty fuckin funny.

"Comedy movies ain't funny cause they're acting. It ain't real!"
Some people just can't find joy in life and that's their fucking problem.
Edit: Some of you need to chill out and not get so butt hurt by the idea that someone who is make a clip isn't a professional actor. This is the Internet, you're not entitled to anything, adjust your expectations.

u/JerbearCuddles Jun 29 '22
The comparison fails cause comedies don't try pretend they're real. The cam videos are playing it off like it's real. Being disingenuous is why for some it stops being funny. It's fine to find them funny, and it's fine to not find them funny. People view things differently. Dunno why people are getting defensive about it. Lol.
14
u/narcissist1 Jun 29 '22
I knew this was fake from somewhere near the start, and still found it funny. Just like any skit from a comedy show, except on a surveillance cam.
The fact that some people find it less funny because they realised they were tricked halfway through is even funnier somehow. It’s like they stop being able to see it as a well acted skit… simply because they feel a bit dumb.

u/Tipop Jun 29 '22
At what point of this video is it “trying to pretend to be real”?
What differentiates this video from, say, a bit in a comedy movie where the mother gets all angry and yells in a ring camera and it turns out she’s at the wrong house?
13
u/Sooperballz Jun 29 '22
Comedy movies don’t try to present themselves as real. These types of clips are just disingenuous.

Thank god you said this. I can't tell you how mad it drives me when I see something funny as hell and everyone in comments is complaining about it being staged. I swear these people will watch movie and be like "This is clearly staged. Can't believe all you normies fall for this shit."
76
u/noface8137 Jun 28 '22
It’s how I feel whenever I see anything I find hilarious but people call fake. Like alright it’s fake. If you look at it as a “skit” or “short” it’s still really funny. And this situation would be so damn embarrassing cause I felt the mom. I would be beasting for my kid too. But then find out you’re at the wrong mother fucking house lol
25
9
u/wow_im_white Jun 29 '22
It's only funny as a skit. If it's presented without any context of being a skit it's not the same.
This isn't rocket science why people are annoyed and you're just being annoying complaining about complainers lol

Even with this one being fake I have seen an incredible amount of this shit in real life also.
46
u/Murderdoll197666 Jun 28 '22 edited Jun 29 '22
Its all about presentation. You open it up with credits/intro all that good stuff we can enjoy it as a movie or TV show or skit etc. You try to pass it off as real like in the OP's video then any bit of "funny" there might have been just feels soured. Maybe even slightly cringey tbh. Can't just present it one way and then try to pull the rug out with an obvious fake scenario/reaction or whatever and try to pass it off.

I swear to gosh, last week my mom was complaining that a drama tv show she’s been watching has “an agenda” And I asked what the agenda was and she said “it’s all fake and about mindless entertainment!” And I was like “… um yeah, that’s basically a description of movies and tv, it’s fake stuff acted out for enjoyment and entertainment”
3
5
u/Poopdick_89 Jun 29 '22
Being a movie you know what it is. It's not pretending to be something its not. These videos are pretending to be real and that's the issue.
→ More replies3
u/MuppetBones Jun 29 '22
Except movies aren’t trying to trick you into thinking they really happened. No ones trying to make you believe Iron Man is real, these people are. I can’t believe people still use this “but movies are scripted” excuse, just admit you didn’t realize it was scripted and move on. The comedy of most of these videos is “wow I can’t believe that happened”. If this were a scene in a movie I’d think it was a shitty scene with bad acting.
3
u/Survived_Coronavirus Jun 29 '22
Two things wrong with your comment.
Firstly, you're misunderstanding why people get mad. People don't care that it's fake. We don't like this shit because it's pretending to be real, to fool less observant people. And it works, for the vast majority of idiots and children on reddit. So yes, top comments should help these people understand it isn't real.
Secondly, this isn't even that funny.
2
u/Drauul Jun 29 '22
It's the deception that's the issue. We know a movie is fake going in. These videos are presented as unscripted and organic, but clearly aren't. They rely on the gullible to propagate.
2
u/BootySweat0217 Jun 29 '22
A lot of people are faking videos and trying to pass them off as real. I’m not saying that’s what the people in this video did but that’s why people say things like that. Because it happens so often and there are a lot of people who fall for it.
2
u/Nissanica Jun 29 '22
Its just the cringe factor. It being fake but presented as real just makes me shudder. Like why would they think any of us would believe its real? Its no longer funny after that. Just a cringey act to try and go viral
2
u/Indianajonesy21 Jun 29 '22
You should follow r/nothingeverhappens if you don’t already. It’s people making fun of people in r/thathappened for thinking everything is staged when some shit clearly isn’t, or is but they missing the point
1
u/ell98584 Jun 29 '22
It's only funny if you're an idiot. Lots of people think it's funny because lots of people are idiots. It is objectively unfunny.

u/sillyadam94 Didn't Expect It Jun 29 '22
This is the posture I wish more people would embrace on this sub. Every single scripted video has dozens of comments screaming “FAKE!”
Like, of course it’s fake, that doesn’t mean it can’t be funny or entertaining. The point of this sub is to showcase Unexpected content. There’s literally no specification that said content must be unplanned.

Something vaguely similar to this happened to me. I didn't realize what was happening at first. I live very close to a school. A woman came.and told me her daughter said he find my phone app said her phone was here so I needed to go get it from my kids. So I just kind of stood there thinking. The busses go by my house so I was explaining that maybe it pinged off my address earlier. I was asking if it said it was here right now. I even kind of checked the yard wondering if someone threw it out of a window. She seemed tense but wasn't yelling. At some point she said I needed to talk to my kids again and I said I didn't have any kids. Immediately she seemed at ease. Only then did it occur to me she thought my (non existent) kids stole her kid's phone or something. She was satisfied it wasn't there and left. I said if it says it is here to come back and we can check the yard again but she never did.

u/ryogen125 Jun 29 '22
