Is Putin funding his Twitter takeover now that his initial investors backed out? That’s the only reason I can see him dying on this hill for no apparent reason whatsoever.

2.5k

u/darthdope123 Oct 06 '22

Yeah I really don’t get this, like I know Musk thinks he’s the smartest guy to ever walk the earth and just likes to be the “both sides/pragmatist guy” who clearly supports one side. But I don’t get what he gets from taking this wildly unpopular stance unless he really does just believe his own bullshit.

1.4k

u/PMMEYOURCOOLDRAWINGS Oct 06 '22

It’s almost always to do with money. The guy doesn’t have any ethics or morals so if I had to guess, he has received funding. Narcissist only spend other peoples money. Russia is well known for buying out right wing pundits and “thinkers”. Tulsi gabbard, Mitch McConnell, trump, poodle hair guy in congress, the NRA…

335

u/darthdope123 Oct 06 '22

Yeah that’s got to be it right? I guess I was thinking he’s one of the richest people in the world or maybe the richest right now I don’t really keep up with the Forbes list lol so how can they buy him? But yeah he definitely didn’t get to the net worth he’s at being an ethical guy. Greed knows no bounds.

659

u/singed_butthairs Oct 06 '22

Honestly I think it’s his ego in this instance. He made one stupid comment, got called out by a Ukrainian. That call out went viral and now all he can do is double down over and over because he’s insecure. It’s similar to how he handled the soccer kids in a cave issue.

328

u/KnowTouching Oct 06 '22

Narcissistic injury. As absurd as it is that he can’t let stuff like this go in public, in his mind these events absolutely consume every thought. He is deeply unhappy.

246

u/kylehatesyou Oct 06 '22

It's the cave guy all over again, just instead of calling one dude a pedophile, he's backing an dictator's illegal war and annexation of a sovereign nation.

54

u/DrSafariBoob Oct 06 '22

Key feature of NPD, they can't process their own emotions, only create situations that others feel them and process them for them. It's... Wildly sick.

All his actions are explained when you view him through the lens of somebody desperate to convert Trump's insane cult to be his insane cult.

That's why he thought about buying Twitter - to score points with Trump and his ilk by restoring his account, allowing any kind of hate speech, and we'll see soon enough censoring non-fascist accounts.

That's why he's pushing hardcore Russia propaganda now because Trump's cult loves it.

That's why he lied about being a "liberal" for years and claimed he was "red-pilled." That's why he goes on Joe Rogan to pander to his proto-fascists.

He wants the angry idiots with guns to take orders from him. He doesn't need any more money, and his money can't buy him any more power. To increase the amount of power he has he needs people with guns willing to use them against anyone he points at.

That's real power, and Trump has it, and he doesn't at the moment. So every action or public statement he takes is going to be designed to gain that power for himself.

The only way he become the ruler of America is if the fascists dissolve the Constitution which prevents him from being President. I think he intends to ingratiate himself to the fascists such that if they succeed in ending the great American experiment in democracy he can be well positioned to claim this real power for himself.

Elon Musk is insufferable.

1.6k

u/Hazywater Oct 06 '22

What? The guy who immediately starts calling random divers trying to save children in a flooded cave pedophiles because they told him his stupid submarine idea was insane is insufferable?

And it's a little weird that pedophilia was so close to the top of his mind

597

u/throwawaygreenpaq Oct 06 '22

He did? Those guys were heroes. Nobody risks their lives to rescue kids in the water just for a chance to touch them. Elon must be projecting his own sick mind.

335

u/Private_HughMan Oct 06 '22

I think his reasoning was that the diver was a British man living in Thailand. Still jumping a LOT of guns, there.

199

u/throwawaygreenpaq Oct 06 '22

Oh, man. That assumption by Elon makes no sense at all. Locals can also be predators. I’m Asian and avoid stereotypes like this.

139

u/Quaiche Oct 06 '22

It's projections from Musk.

117

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '22

Rich coming Musk, who based on his tract record is a pedophile in training.

Let’s look at his relationship history and approx age gaps.

Justine Wilson 1 year

Tallish Riley 14years

Amber Heard 15years

Grimes 17years

Natasha Basset 22years

At this rate he’ll be dating teens in his 60s.

61

u/RuairiSpain Oct 06 '22

It goes deeper if you join the dots. Elon has a kink for impregnated women. He takes after his father than has twins with his own step-daughter. Family of animals!

214

u/extraboredinary Oct 06 '22

Yeah, he proposed making some kind of rigid submersible to get the kids out of a flooded cave before he even looked at or understood the actual layout of the cave. Some spots were so tight that divers would have to remove their tanks to get through. Extremely difficult for even experienced divers and I think some even died trying to make the attempt.

He basically got upset because he didn't know the cave system, got called out on not knowing something, then he decided to make it personal.

259

u/vendetta2115 Oct 06 '22

He wants so badly to be the hero in every possible situation. And if he can’t be the hero, then he’ll be the victim.

It’s the ultimate irony that his EV company is named Tesla, because he’s 100% an Edison. Tesla would despise Musk.

125

u/pazimpanet Oct 06 '22

He wants desperately to be Tony Stark, he’s actually significantly closer to Lex Luther. The Zombieland guy version at that.

56

u/Beepulons Oct 06 '22

→ More replies (1)

36

u/drrxhouse Oct 06 '22

By “significant closer to Lex Luther”, do you mean the doorman that holds the door for Lex Luther? Because he’s nowhere close to the level of “genius” that’s given to Lex Luther in his comics, etc.

32

u/Holybartender83 Oct 06 '22

This. Honestly, if we’re going by comic book movie characters, he really strikes me as more of a Justin Hammer.

I see this a lot in conspiracy theorists. They want to be the hero, so anyone that believes differently than them must be a villain. Why did he reject the sub? Not because a coffin with an airtank wouldn’t work, but because he has some other nefarious goal in mind.

More like... if an average redditor suddenly became rich, what bullshit theories would he throw at the world after 5 minutes of googling?

While people who dedicated their lives to the subject tear him a new one.

869

u/FoeDoeRoe Oct 06 '22

The kind of bullshit Musk is spewing, is not what comes from 5 minutes of googling. He's literally quoting Kremlin talking points.

Random googling wouldn't give you words like "Kruschev mistake." That's Putin's words and something that's a hot button for Russian propaganda, but wouldn't show up in googling, because it's historically incorrect (Kruschev was not the most important person at the time in that decision; nor was it a mistake), and because it's really not the most relevant thing. Neither would even the issue of water for Crimea show up as the top concern.

So whatever Musk is saying, it's the direct result of Russian influence - whether directly from a paid agent, or from a useful idiot, or from Musk's own doubling down and going for the worst source.

This is exactly the kind of crap that prosperity gospel gets you: when people believe that rich == smart/informed/has to be revered. And those people then go on to get a God complex. Although, in our society, it's having a God complex and starting out rich, is sometimes what gets you even richer, because, again, we are presupposed to think that those people "know something."

It's anti-intellectualism at its worst. And culture wars at their worst, when Musk and others double down on being completely craven.

193

u/_owlstoathens_ Oct 06 '22

There's a whole generation of kids who now worship Trump because they have no understanding of the guy's pathetic past. All they know is his MAGA era. Even for me, a guy in his 30s, i have no recollection of the man before i saw him on his stupid television show back in the early 2000s. There's an otherwise intelligent 16 year old in some of my community college classes right now and he's convinced Trump is some kind of secret genius. It's baffling but then again he's still a kid, can't blame him if his parents shoved this shit into his head.

Coming of age during the post Trump era has got to be horrible. Even if you're a smart kid there is a good chance you get caught up in the currents if some scum lord peddling nonsense online.

"cool intellectual contrarian" is probably the best description for the cancer that's eating away our society. i kinda think all our problems start with that group.

359

u/TavisNamara Oct 06 '22

It's wild how literally every single one of them is actually an obnoxious, narcissistic contrarian. None of them are cool, and if they're intelligent they sure don't seem to use it.

250

u/oldbastardbob Oct 06 '22

There's a personality type here that I'm fairly familiar with, the person with above average intelligence who thinks they are a genius.

Everybody knows at least one. That 115 IQ person with an extrovert personality who thinks they know more than everybody else about everything and can't fathom that the quiet woman with the 165 IQ is smarter.

I have this theory that I have zero proof for. That this group is the most likely to exhibit the Dunning-Kruger effect. Too much confidence to self analyze and understand who they really are and what they really know well.

79

u/RamenJunkie Oct 06 '22

In my experience, people who are actually smart, don't care about "IQ".

Not saying everyone who doesn't care is smart. But for the most part, the only people who do, would probably fall under "thinks they are the cool intellectual contrarian".

42

u/Windex007 Oct 06 '22

People wildly abuse IQ as justification for this-or-that. It's a normalized measure of capacity for pattern recognition.

The smartest people are often the folks whose names you’ll never know and whose faces you’ll never see.

In my experience, smart folks are self aware enough to understand that they’re not the smartest person in the room. That level of self awareness tends to lend to humility, which lends to “names you’ll never know and faces you’ll never see”.

In any case, Russia is a major petroleum producer who can't sell on the open market right now. Domestic fuel prices are low, electronics are expensive. It's the stupidest place to try and sell overpriced EV's.

u/Beowulf1896 Oct 06 '22

Oligarchs?

42

u/wskyindjar Oct 06 '22

Sure. But selling a few thousand teslas doesn’t seem worthwhile (never mind that the wealthy probably have them if they want them).

The challenge for most countries isn’t even having the cars but the lack of charging.

Russia does a lot with Nasa and Space X. There was even a running joke, "if you want to be an astronaut, learn Russian."

The rocket biz has a bunch of Russians who make up Elons inner circle.

Bruh, dude literally knows nothing of the situation. 2012 is before the Maidan revolution when this entire conflict originally started. 2012 Ukraine was still under a pro-Russian puppet president until the mass protests and eventually the legislature kicked out the pro-Russian president thus leading to the conflicts that eventually lead to the separatist groups and the annexation of Crimea. And even then you have to consider the knock down effects on that from the 2002-2004 Orange Revolution when the pro-russian government first started dismantling to de-rigging elections in favor of the pro-russian government

153

u/pleasetrimyourpubes Oct 06 '22

He literally had to choose peak Russia meddling period in Ukraines democracy. Any other time the picture doesn't look this way. Russia fucked Ukraine so hard iver gas and installing puppets to the tune of billions of dollars that the Ukranians would not have it anymore.

67

u/Fifth_Down Oct 06 '22

Yep. Those “Pro Russia” regions never wanted to join Russia, they just wanted language rights for Russian speakers and open borders to visit their family members in Russia.

Then Russia invaded in 2014 and set up a totalitarian puppet regime in Donbas and 8 years of small scale war. All this accomplished was take a civilian population that had some sympathy for friendly relations with Moscow to erode their support.

By 2022 Putin’s grasp in the region was dying, so he resorted to a large scale military invasion as his final act of desperation. Only, in order to get to the Ukrainian speaking areas he first had to march an Army through all the Russian-speaking regions of Ukraine. Those regions don’t care what language you speak, they saw an invading army and reacted in kind.

The irony of the situation is that it was the Russian-speaking regions of Ukraine who did the most to throw the Russians out, and the ones who paid the heaviest price in this war. They would be the last of anyone to offer sympathy for Russian talking points.

17

u/TovarishchFlashback Oct 06 '22

Fun fact: Initially Yanukovich won the election because he promised to bring Ukraine closer to the EU, while maintaining close ties to Russia. So not all of those who voted for him were actually 100% pro-russian. He was a populist who tried to satisfy an audience as wide as possible

I was naive enough to buy the line that democrats were the naive ones, and Republicans were the adults. Democrats and their pesky data and statistics and "facts" getting in the way of what we all KNOW to be true.

Why is Elon even trying to debate another country’s sovereignty

76

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '22

Because his ego is too large to fit in his own competence zone, so it has to keep leaking out into every hot topic he knows nothing about. That's the thing with famous narcissists, they can't just mind their own business - they want to push their ignorant views on each and everyone and keep themselves at the centre of attention.

38

u/Drunkdoggie Oct 06 '22 edited Oct 06 '22

Dude wants to be Trump so bad it's not even funny.

If Trump light TM was a thing this guy would be the brand mascot.

Basically every move he makes is a slightly delayed, watered down, play-by-play from the MAGA guidebook -sprinkled with key notes from 'how to become a dictator for dummies'-

And of course both he and some of his party members are involved in multiple (integrity) scandals such as;

  • Refusing to declare the ancillary income he recieves. (Basically his version of Trumps Tax return scandal)
  • Facilitating a youth party whatsapp group riddled with racist, fascist and all around terrible messages.
  • Making derogatory comments about coloured people, women, lgbtq+ people, and Jewish people.
  • Threatening people on social media and inciting his followers against his opposition and certain people who argue with him on social media.
  • Promoting quack medicine and therapy
  • Spouting, and contributing to, baseless conspiracy theories
  • Opposing climate change
  • Starting his own party branded school that teaches far-right extremist propaganda and conspiracy theories.
  • Being investigated for possible embezzlement and fraud
  • Supporting Russia and spreading anti-ukraine propaganda

Lately it got so bad that basically all but a few politicians left the chamber when he started spouting nonsense about his baseless theory that a politician from another party was a Marxist and a Russian spy.

Dude is a straight up delusional moron who shouldn't be a politician, let alone someone in a position of authority.

Luckily his base is relatively small and slowly declining after he went full MAGA levels of crazy lately.
