So sorry, I'm broke so I can only pay you $77 for my food. You were great though.

Yep. It's on the servers boss if they're not getting a livable wage.

Tipping should be illegal, and I say that as someone who relies on tips.

u/DanTheRocketeer Jan 15 '22

Tipping shouldn’t be illegal, it should be bonus. That’s how it’s is pretty much everywhere other than the US - the servers get paid a living wage and if they get tipped it’s either theirs to keep or split amongst all the servers (the former being the better system).

Tipping should be everywhere! Surgeon operated early, tip! Politician passed that law you wanted, bonus! Teacher gave your child an A, have a little cash.

Tips are called bribes in any area of employment where the employees are not horrifically mistreated and underpaid. They have no place in a civilized culture.

even Walmart employees can't accept tips

Walmart will fire you over $1

u/OneMillionSchwifties Jan 15 '22

Walmart will fire you for eating unopened, but expired beef jerky from the dumpster. They'll even wait a whole year to bring it up and fire you over it.

u/Plorpington Jan 15 '22

Super specific. Maybe that’s just the excuse they used against you?

u/OneMillionSchwifties Jan 15 '22

It was a friend of mine, but yeah. It was during the last major recession (I wanna say like 2014?) and they were looking for reasons to let EVERYBODY go. They let over 30 people go at the end of their shifts not on Christmas day, but on fucking CHRISTMAS NIGHT. These were people who had been told there was a chance of layoffs and considered not coming in on Christmas, but they were told Christmas was a great day to work in hopes of proving themselves as team players and possibly keep their jobs. Their reasoning? Well, the holidays are over, we don't need most of you for another 9 months, so you're fired and also not allowed to reapply for 6 months in a neighborhood with almost ZERO other job opportunities for non-skill workers. I'm usually the first to put myself in a companies shoes, but even I can't defend that shit. They knew they were making promises they couldn't keep to men and women with kids at home... on fucking Christmas, dudes. On fucking Christmas.

Damn, that's when you're being so evil three ghosts don't even consider you worth their time.
