Can we get a "Meet the mod team" to see if there are any more surprises we should know about?

The way they keep handing the reins over to people in their inner circle of friends is more like a shitty vanguard party than an anarchist movement. Jesus, how embarrassing for anarchists.

u/xbrand2 Jan 28 '22
If it's real, link to it, not a screenshot.

u/Sam-Culper Jan 28 '22 edited Jan 28 '22
Deal. Now share it? https://old.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/9lslh4/the_economy_is_a_trap_by_winter_trabex/
This is now archived through archive.org as well.

Especially with us gaining all these new mods today.

u/AngryMoose125 Jan 27 '22
There are no new mods it’s the same mods who are panicking to make alt accounts because we’re calling for them to step down
→ More replies25
u/Uncommented-Code Jan 27 '22
To be fair, if I was a mod in this whole shitshow and comitted to not stepping down, I sure as hell would be making an alt right now so people don‘t doxx me for being a mod.
It‘s probably the next best idea, right after resigning.
2
u/CompetitiveSilver821 Jan 27 '22
Now, what if... There is no mod team. What if.. It's just 1 person with multiple accounts.
6
u/PapaGooby Jan 27 '22
Iirc these new mods are from the Discord channel to help with overflow now that it’s open again

u/Ceresjanin420 Jan 27 '22
Anyway I'll step down as the head moderator for the following week as I have a cnn interview soon and I need time to NOT prepare

"Hello, I'd like to apply for a job as a mod. I was actually on reddit for a long time, (since about 2005) and I used to be a mod of many subreddts for a very long time. I have plenty of experience and was even given a little reddit "Snu" golden statue by the original Reddit admin team.................................................................... by the way my username used to be u/violentacrez".

Having read this diatribe, it reads like a guilty predator trying to get their side of the story out first to 'control the narrative'.

"doreen" is a giant fucking moron who absolutely needs to be called out and shamed. Fucking kneecapped a whole movement in 5 mins. What a fucking meme. This person is an actual living stereotype.

u/BrattyBookworm Jan 28 '22
Oh my god. I can’t believe she so openly admitted to it. Thank you for the screenshot.

If we're gonna meet them, tell them to dress properly, get a nice haircut, and clean their room especially the bed!
32
u/Antelope-Automatic Jan 27 '22
Who do you think has time to moderate a subreddit with millions of members? Cause it's not gonna be a struggling worker, or some put together young CEO type. But that's okay. Mods don't have to be representatives, we don't need to meet the mods and nor does anyone else, we just need them to stay out of the way and enforce the rules.
It doesn't matter who the person reviewing reports and stuff is really, as long as they do it well and don't try to make themselves more than that
12
u/Elaan21 Jan 27 '22
This is a really good point.
I would have the time (but have zero desire to) but I'm definitely not representative of the sub. I'm a 30 something freelancer who moved back home during the pandemic to help take care of family. Aka, someone Fox News could easily spin to be a mooch, regardless of reality.
It would never occur to me to speak on behalf of anyone here unless I was armed with statements from users of the sub and was merely the vehicle for the message. As in, "I'm here giving this interview because most of the people on the sub are working right now and can't afford to take time off, but here is what they want you to know." And even then it would feel weird.
I think people confuse subreddits created around a fandom or content creator with those created around an ideal or interest. No one thinks the mods of AITA are the ultimate arbiters of assholery. Why would this sub be any different?

I read something yesterday that there was someone who admitted to sexually assaulting someone or a group of people, was that a mod? If so, has that person stepped down and fucked off?
1
u/OneMustAdjust Jan 28 '22 edited Jan 28 '22
Try not to say something mean, try not to say something mean, try not to say something mean
Unpopular opinion:
The mod fucked up, egregiously. In the present as well as the past. The mod has been ridiculed enough. We as redditors should put down the pitchforks and lift this person up. We are many, we are one. The team is as strong as its weakest link.
But for real with the alts, not cool.

u/JWOLFBEARD Jan 28 '22
Not just a mod, but THE same mod that interviewed.
2
u/RedStilettoDickStomp Jan 28 '22
So it was public knowledge this person sexually assaulted someone and they still became the impromptu spokesperson for the sub... Ffs, I think I'm done here. This is pure lunacy.

u/Privatebrowsingatwrk Jan 27 '22
What's your aim as a moderator?
First of all - I don't really want to speak (as a sort of representative, I reject representation!) for anarchism or the anti-work movement.
However, at this point we still have past interviews that were done but haven't released yet. Namely:
Kyodo News (Japanese) by /u/Kimezukae, release unknown.
New York Times by /u/Kimezukae, release unknown - community members of this subreddit also have given answers, as far as we are aware.
Fast company by /u/Kimezukae, release unknown
They have been a mod for less than a month. So what was the interval between the linked post and the interviews???

"we would like to introduce the new band of mods to th---"
SELL OUTS!!!!
2
u/Buttgigglez Jan 27 '22
I think a better alternative is abandoning this subreddit. You're not the captain so don't go down with the ship like the mods have to.
2
u/Pink_Firework Jan 27 '22
considering how they desperately tried to defend their sexual abusing mod friend, I'm sure they're on some lists you can find

Like the whole Aimee Challenor, the lgbt teens subreddit mod, pedophile situation? Yeah that'd be good to avoid.
Remember, they also expressed against "meet the mods" being a thing.
2
u/Seer434 Jan 27 '22
I mean there is one that is a brand new account with like a day on it. I wonder who that could be?
So I would say there are more surprises.

u/DrinkMoreCodeMore Jan 27 '22
I feel like they are all unemployed 21 year old anarchists with an extensive history of being shitty people irl and online.
1
u/Fidel_Hashtro Jan 28 '22
I'm just pissed that there's still the "we want more rights as workers" vs the "rEtUrN tO mOnKe/aUtOMaTiOn" debate going on. AND I'm a fucking anarchist.

u/customerservicevoice Jan 27 '22
I proposed this same question on a womens sub and got banned lol I got tired of not knowing who exactly seemed things to qualify as derailing

No surprises there. They're all awful human beings that shouldn't be entrusted with a child-proof bleach bottle, let alone a sub this big.

u/letitenfold Jan 27 '22
Anyone got that picture where a bunch of subnormal folks gathered in some restaurant, there was one with a big forehead, etc. You know the one i´m talking about.

u/sunnythehippy69 Jan 27 '22
I agree. But I also believe the sub is more to become confident in our own rights as workers

u/stupidsheepevrywhere Jan 27 '22
If someone is a self-described anarchist and applying to be a moderator shouldn't they be automatically disqualified on the grounds of overwhelming hypocrisy?

How in the world does this place still have 1.7 members?
There are non-crazy alternatives out there.

Their looks /status only matter if they are going on national tv . The issue isn’t Doreen’s appearance or job it’s the fact Doreen belongs behind the scenes and not on tv debating a playboy like Jesse watters

u/ASIWYFA11 Jan 27 '22
Why not fill a PR role with someone that has actual experience as well? If we are presented with any PR opportunities and play our cards right, we have a person with the ability to communicate for the sub. Those that fill traditional mod roles did not sign up for that and we saw the outcome. Lets get ahead this time.

u/tabooblue32 Jan 27 '22
He's our favourite new mod, a vegetarian and awesome painter, that's right give it up for.... .... Adolf Hitler!

So this person stepping up now ends up the target of millions or even if it’s just thousands looking into every bit of their life where a percentage of people mess with their current employer or family members because they want to fuck with this sub or are so high strung for the cause that no one is good enough and punish anyone for trying.
Many will point out how a normal person wouldn’t step up to be scrutinized so completely for a non payed no benefit position, so there must be something wrong with them and scrutinize them even more.
There’s no win to this approach. Anonymity is important to even get someone to want to put themselves in such a spot when theres only downsides from those against the movement and those in it who will never be happy with whoever this person is.
Reactionary approaches are gonna burn everything down
1
u/bIueliner Jan 27 '22
Do you even known who you’re taking to here? Basically, I’m a pretty big deal.
1
u/AmaDeusen- Jan 27 '22
After the first one we saw and heard, I would pay not to see/hear the other ones.
Absolute epitome of internet cringe/anti-social/awkward/etc. person.

What about the jerk who a few weeks back was trying to dictate what opinions on overpopulation were "allowable" here?

u/Chaoxytal Jan 27 '22
It’s all 20 something “communist” kids who live in their parents’ mansions and have never been employed.
1
u/Fatmanpuffing Jan 27 '22
at this point i am believing that every mod is just a alt account for the rapist
1
u/septicboy Anarcho-Communist Jan 27 '22
Mods are not people you'd wanna meet. They should stay faceless in their mom's basements.

They can keep their sporadic masterbatory sleep overs to themselves and just gtfo.

Yea 21 year olds who havent actually had a job in their life should not be the ones moderating this sub.

u/gekc49 Jan 28 '22
Yeah, I want to know who are the mods of this group too. I was irked that one was a "21-yr old long-term unemployed anarchist". I just got flashbacks from my college days when people like them would just grab the mic and crown themselves as emperor disregarding any democratic process.

The problem with a "Meet the mod team" is that it inherently elevates the mods to a position of importance by suggesting they are people who should be met.
It feeds right back into the self-important arrogance that resulted in this whole situation in the first place.
We need a full replacement of the current mod team - they simply don't have the respect to operate effectively, and they're too self-important to recognize that and step aside.
