I am requesting the mod team step down, and allow the appointment of a new mod team through democratic process

How about we have mods that strictly remove harassing/doxxing posts and then do absolutely nothing else?

u/HarukiMuracummy Jan 27 '22
Mods don’t need to be “qualified” they just need to remove posts and not speak for an entire community. Having a rigorous process to select them actually implies they are in some capacity qualified to speak for everyone.
7
6
u/healerdan Jan 27 '22
I absolutely agree that this should be the role moderators take, and I think that we as a community (if we can take over mod control to [possibly] save this sub) should make it clear exactly what we expect from our mods.
I didn't want to impose too many of my viewpoints in the body of my post because I believe it would stand in the way of crowd sourcing ideas - I'm happy just contributing in the comment section and letting my peers upvote
One thought I do have though, is to actually identify a very small team of mods who can act as representatives in a very limited capacity. mods should take something like interview requests directly to the sub reddit, and we all should have input, but a glorious leader has its perks in how quickly we as a community respond to things so long as we can be comfortable the leader is aware of our views and able to articulate them as we desire... I'm not 100% sold though, just spitballin'
1
u/MaievSekashi Jan 27 '22
They should probably also remove various bigoted shit and the other basics (reddit code enforcement and spam etc).
1
u/kitchenjesus Jan 27 '22
Yeah basically. They’re doing too much and not only do they not realize how much damage they’re doing I think they think it’s for the best.
They never were but most certainly are no longer in control of this movement.

I think we have to be careful about who we hand power over to.
The mods made mistakes here, but it would be much worse if we handed the sub over to capitalist shills and they shut everything down entirely or completely changed the aims of the sub.
People who become new mods should be throughly vetted if there is any kind of switch.
16
u/RogueMaven Jan 27 '22
This right here. So many people with their pitchforks raised, but a blanket removal of all mods to be swapped by new mods is exactly the type of opportunity bad actors hope for.
7
u/healerdan Jan 27 '22
this is why I put forward the process which I did (though some seem to have missed some points)
first - hold vote. Do we ask the mods to step aside for other mods?
(at this time we could also ask if any of the mods are redeemable in case the answer is to yes, remove mods)
[I am hopeful any mods will trim down their duties to the bare necessities of moderating]
second set a thread in which people who want to be a mod say ONLY "i volunteer" (or something) so they can't try to convince anyone in any way. that way we can review that person's reddit activity, and determine if this account has been active and appeared to uphold the views necessary to adequately moderate the sub.
from that pool of volunteers you would make a ballot, or set several pools to yes/no the top... say... 30 people who volunteered.
I think at this point we would ask the current mods to hand over the reigns. hopefully they will take this opportunity to find some integrity, and operate in good faith to help remove themselves and save this sub.
6
u/RogueMaven Jan 27 '22
It all sounds reasonable, but attempting any sort of “process” in an open forum line this is like herding cats. The one mod needs to go, there is no way around that. Let’s see if current mods can deal with that situation first. The movement existed before this sub and wasn’t made because of it - it will exist no matter what happens. I think people are mostly over-reacting to the perceived threat to their egos of potentially being associated with the image Cringe-mod portrayed on TV.

u/baby-or-chihuahuas Jan 27 '22
It honestly wouldn't be a bad idea for a new sub entirely to take over at this point. Maybe called something more appropriate like anti-being treated like crap at work or anti-anti-unions.

Expo here-- 11 year redditor and 40 year old worker. Been doing other people's computer chores for a living for about 26 years now.
If you'd like to discuss the US Labor Movement in a non-fucky environment, please consider visiting /r/USLaborMovement
I started it after the Fox teainwreck, when the mods in /r/AntiWork started banning people for complaining about their lies and betrayal of the community.
Stop on by if you'd like!
I ain't never gonna ban nobody for saying things I don't like-- I wouldn't do that. That's bossman union busting shit.

I would like to become a mod. I have had my Reddit account for years, am pro-union, live in a house, and have been abused at jobs.
6
2
u/PoeticResoluion Jan 27 '22
We need to just bounce to another sub. This one is toast, unless all mods are changed out (unlikely since they clutch onto what little power they have)
2
u/ShartGuard Jan 27 '22
This mod team definitely must go, every last one of them. We can’t give up until they are go e.
We must set standards for mods.
Let’s start with them being active members in a union.
I am not in a union, therefore I am inadmissible as a mod.

u/NFRNL13 Jan 27 '22
If workers should seize the means of production, the same logic applies to this sub and mods.

Amazing the number of posts asking a sub to change. Why don't you fuck off to another sub if you don't like it? I'm not a fan of what happened at all but what the fuck is this? This is an anti-capitalist sub whether you like it or not regardless of who mods it.
1
u/Dovahkiin4e201 Jan 27 '22
Reddit moderators have far too much control over communities that really consist of hundreds of thousands of people, I hope this sparks a more democratic subreddit and hopefully the rest of reddit takes note.
1
u/Owfyc Jan 27 '22
This is the way. No more shit-talk. Just restructuring. No need for mods to hold on to their positions, they're meaningless. Mods -- if you step down you lose nothing. Stay part of the community, but let go and let the community grow and become what it is meant to be. A true force for change.
1
u/Iamthebelch Jan 27 '22
Work reform is what this sub should of been called in the first place. What happened jeopardized public opinion on our cause. I say we just call it work reform and keep doing what we are doing until and use terms like work reform and general strikes.
1
u/Lurlex Jan 27 '22
It's already been made and like a big chunk of the old /r/antiwork crowd are there. I'm worried that linking to the sub directly will earn me a ban, but just delete the space between work and reform, and that's the new sub name. Check it -- it's there.
Seriously, it's almost got half a million people since being created YESTERDAY. It's only a matter of time before the new sub gets front-paged, too. I don't think this one is coming back --- much of the saner element here has officially moved to the new one.
1
u/FilthyTrashPeople Jan 27 '22
lol I see the mods killed this thread
It's funny watching you all see Tankies be Tankin' with surprise, that's what always happens with the left
-2
u/Ginno_the_Seer Jan 27 '22
I’m not here often enough to know what you’re talking about. What did they do?
2
u/StealthPanther Jan 27 '22
A single user gave an interview with fox news claiming to represent the community as a whole. Needless to say the interview was totally botched and went poorly at best.
1
u/mikepoland Jan 27 '22
What most Reddit mods do. Be power hungry and think they are hot shots for being mods who walk dogs for a living and live in a basement at the age of 30
-9
u/XamuelTF Jan 27 '22
It’s an anarchist sub and you want a democratic election LOOOLLL bro they’re Reddit mods they will clearly rather just close the sub than accept they are shitters IRL and on the internet
-16
u/BevLive Jan 27 '22
Bored of this topic now.
Nobody is forcing you to be here, so if you don't like it, leave.
6
u/Undorkins Jan 27 '22
We don't like watching a handful of clowns steer something that could have been a movement into the nearest tree. If this keeps up that's the obvious next step, and you're not going to be a huge fan of how fast that number on the right there drops.
-1
u/BevLive Jan 27 '22
Lol. I don't care about votes.
As I said, if you don't like the sub, leave, it's really that simple.
2
u/Undorkins Jan 27 '22
Lol, you think I'm talking about votes? I'm talking about the subscriber count. Do you even know where you are?
I thought this was a place for people who stood up to bullshit. And I know you don't really recognize it, but this is bullshit.
-3
u/BevLive Jan 27 '22
Meh, you're obviously in the wrong sub. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
1
u/Jeff_Bezos_Ego Jan 27 '22
I think we'll keep the other guy.
You, on the other hand, can fuck right off with those shitty mods.
0
u/BevLive Jan 27 '22
That won't be happening.
1
u/Jeff_Bezos_Ego Jan 27 '22
Well then, stick around and see how much you like what this sub turns into.
0
u/Jeff_Bezos_Ego Jan 27 '22
Or you could, like, you know, just fuck off and let the rest of us fix our subreddit.
1
u/BevLive Jan 27 '22
The sub that you have joined, not reading it's description and now you're trying to destroy because your feelings got hurt?
Yeah, don't think so.

We require all Reddit accounts to be at least 3 days old before posting. This is due to people being banned and immediately setting up new accounts. This message is not accusing you of doing that, but that is why the policy is in place.
In rare cases, if you have a particularly time-sensitive message, we may manually approve a message. Otherwise we encourage you to wait the 3 days (72 hours) and try again.
I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

I agree with this. This subreddit needs a reform. We need to replace the mods and vote for a new mod team, along side with a dedicated team to represent us when it comes to media. I strongly believe we should vote and clear what is going to be said too to the media. From what I see, antiwork is about workers right. Fighting for a better pay check so we can afford even the bare necessities in life like rent and food. We need to carry on our hard work of helping each other get these benefits. We shouldn’t live to work. We shouldn’t need to have a second job just to get by. This is not what life should be like. We can’t let capitalism have this affect on us where we can’t unionise or have to slave away for pennies

Start from the top of the pyramid and resign them all, even if one old virus is left, only influences the new team members to old ways
Start fresh
1
u/csmicfool Jan 27 '22
Should the current mod team be replaced?
-yes
Can mods who can prove they were outspoken against the actions taken by other moderators be considered for retaining their positions?
-yes

Guys I'm being dead serious, you should elect me to become a moderator, I'm perfect.
Reasons:
•i am a dog walker
•i think that's good enough to get me to teach philosophy
•i stand for like nothing that the subreddit does, and won't even voice them
•i'm an admitted rapist
•My name's Doreen
•i love setting back years of movement just because of how power hungry I am
1
u/ripmumbo Jan 27 '22
I feel like a new sub will have to be created because the current mods egos wont allow them to step down
1
u/TheOneGecko Jan 27 '22
Elected mods who are accountable to the users should be a default. Instead, Doreens are the default.
This isnt an r/antiwork problem its a Reddit problem. Mods on all subreddits are 100% unaccountable and have too much power. And that unchecked power attracts some very depraved and unwell people.
Theres no point replaced these braindead slugs with new braindead slugs. Theres no point creating a new subreddit with other braindead slugs as mods.
Accountable mods should be the default not a rare exception. Reddit is fundamentally flawed.
1
u/YourIllusiveMan Jan 27 '22
The remainder of the mod team needs to step down in disgrace like the rest of them. There's 10 left including bots down from 30 the day before yesterday. The ones who have remained are an embarrassment and hinder workers rights
1
u/s-kane Jan 27 '22
I absolutely agree; any process outside a democratic system where the members all have their voice heard would be a disservice to the movement. Hell, any mod who dislikes the idea seems in favor of hierarchical power structures and hence, shouldn't be a mod for a sub that directly oppoes that.
1
u/wreeper007 Jan 27 '22
Nothing will come of this.
The mods don't care about you and will ban you on a whim. More people will join the sub and replace your numbers. Or they will start complaining how nobody wants to not work anymore.
If we try to band together they will just ban en masse for discussing post counts or trying to collectively bargain for change.
In other words, you die a hero or live long enough to become the villain.
1
u/TheFinalBannanaStand Anarcho-Syndicalist Jan 27 '22
Alright well I got put on as a temporary mod due to this message which sums it up. Idk if Ill stay that way- older mods briefly removed me for saying we need some form of democracy.
Anyway this got me on the team and sums up my feelings:
"With all due respect, I am incredibly disappointed in the mod team as a fellow anarchist. The core of anarchism is the destruction of all hierarchy, a dissolution of all power. Your behavior, both with these interviews and with the black Friday debacle, has gone against the votes of an explicitly leftist community. You've ignored the desires and consent of thousands of people you are supposed to have no power over because you simply reckon you know better. To anyone vaguely familiar with egalitarian thought, this is the single worst thing you can do. To be frank, I don't think you can call yourselves anarchists if you continue to act the way you do. You might continue to use the rhetoric, but if you do, it will be in the way tankies do- hollow, a vapid justification for power. I'm willing to mod if people are stepping down (and I realize this is a wild request considering the past few sentences but hear me out). I've read a great deal of anarchist theory, and I have first-hand experience in workplace organizing as well as PR campaigns and marketing. But perhaps most importantly, I won't find it hard to swallow the pride I feel about all of the above to listen to the community. If it's a struggle for the current mod team, fine. Let people in who will actually act like anarchists, and let the antiwork movement thrive"
1
u/kitchenjesus Jan 27 '22
I’ll volunteer as well. 30 years old, 15 years in food service. I am Pro union, I’ve worked with unions and in unions. I want what’s best for the workers.
This place is over moderated by people who have no bearing on what this movement has become or how to even deal with people. They’re doing all of us a disservice by continuing this charade.

u/Disarryonno Jan 27 '22
I am interested in moderating, I spend all my time on reddit, but I work too much to have time to moderate it 😂
1
u/xDouble-dutchx Jan 27 '22
We need people who have actually worked real jobs that you have to apply for. I think the mods should post their work history (they don’t have to mention companies) but they need to be vetted.

We're an anarcho-syndicalist commune. We take it in turns to act as sort-of-executive officer for the week. But all the decisions of that officer have to be ratified at a special biweekly meeting by a simple majority, in the case of purely internal affairs. But by a two thirds majority, in the case of more major affairs.

Hello all,
I would like to volunteer for mod elections. Reasons you should vote for me: - I am left wing - I have not raped anyone - I have social anxiety so I will never talk to anyone on television - In fact I'll likely never talk to any media at all - I will simply moderate and fuck off to the abyss - I brush my hair
1
u/ExOblivion Jan 27 '22
I fucking second this.
If all else fails we need a new sub to be started and have everyone who is actually trying to get something done about workers rights come there.
1
u/Save_Cows_Eat_Vegans Jan 27 '22
Not going to happen. Even if they would step down and allow this any poll you put up can be easily manipulated.
You’d basically be handing this sub over to the shills.
Either way it’s a moot point because it won’t happen.

How will you prevent corruption of such a process by our pro-work enemies who can focus their votes on one candidate to infiltrate and subvert /r/antiwork?
1
u/s-mores Jan 27 '22
Would like to mention one more thing, the choosing and re-choosing of mods should be monthly. Maybe automatic.
I kinda get not wanting to just drop everything and go, there are most likely good mods who don't give a shit about drama and just try to take care of things, and you never know if you get an even shittier team in place.
But if it's some sort of vote (though I don't think Reddit would bend to that) every month... why not?

Down with the tards. Does anyone have any milkshakes to attract the tards to the yard?
1
u/Kelp-Among-Corals Jan 27 '22
Is this an informal poll already? I vote yes, yes. The overall team needs an overhaul, but no need to throw babies out with the bathwater as the saying goes.
I am tentatively willing to volunteer. I haven't made a lot of political posts on this account yet, but it's my new main. I don't think there's anything I'm ashamed of here, and I am solid in my views so anything unclear can be asked.
1
u/MonkAndCanatella Jan 27 '22
How do we prevent astroturfing? Right now there are 66k votes on a post saying we should shut down the sub, but every single comment is calling them out as an obvious shill. How would we stop it from being brigaded by fascists?

Idk if it's just because I don't know much about socialism, but it seems odd a pro-socialism group is calling for a democratic action/vote.
Respectfully, just my brain wondering things.
4
u/Jeff_Bezos_Ego Jan 27 '22
What part of socialism is anti-democracy?
Idk if it's just because I don't know much about socialism
Oh I see. You should have just stopped there. You couldn't be more wrong.
-2
u/ToothlessBlackout Jan 27 '22
This is literally what socialism is and you can’t fight it, but you all desire it. That’s the funny part we’re all laughing at
1
u/Jeff_Bezos_Ego Jan 27 '22
What an idiotic take. Explain again how this is "literally what socialism is"?
0
u/ToothlessBlackout Jan 27 '22
What I mean is - this is how socialism ends up being, it’s completely related to the downfall of this sub and inability to be represented properly. and late stage socialism is exactly similar to the “antiwork” sentiment, which lets remind each other that’s what the fucking sub is called, because society sharing unearned benefits will always lead to incentivizing laziness.
2
u/Jeff_Bezos_Ego Jan 27 '22
because society sharing unearned benefits will always lead to incentivizing laziness.
Well, you're certainly right about that, but not in the way you intend.
This is some r/selfawarewolves shit.
-1
u/ToothlessBlackout Jan 27 '22
Ironic that this sub has the nads to call someone unaware of themselves when we all got to see the premiere of your representative at the same time as you, and the subsequent civil war over it. What y’all need is a nice long look in the mirror to reevaluate your platform and slogan, but I’m sure that’s too much work for any of you to do. Enjoy leeching off this platform and it’s benefits
2
u/Jeff_Bezos_Ego Jan 27 '22
None of that really made any sense nor followed logically from any previous interaction.
The left had always encompassed a broad array of opinions and populations. It takes a certain lack of critical thinking and susceptibility to propaganda for an entire political party to be as blindly uniform (with slightly varying degrees of accepting and encouraging cruelty) as the Republican party or the American right.
The issues in the sub are a long overdue opportunity to figure out exactly where it stands and what it aspires to be. It's stupid and ugly, but your correlation to self-awareness doesn't hold up.
You're not the smart guy you think you are. You're just a smug prick taking advantage of subreddit drama to score internet points and "own the libs".
-1
u/ToothlessBlackout Jan 27 '22
So you can encompass a broad array of opinions but when someone is public about it finally you can attack them for not representing the different opinion you have from them? I’m so confused, can you point me to the goal post again? If you don’t feel like doing that, good luck on your subreddit’s soul search. It won’t play out, but I hope you get experience going thru the process. When y’all are ready to be cohesive, it won’t matter anymore anyway.
1
u/Jeff_Bezos_Ego Jan 27 '22
This interaction began with your hot take that "this is literally what socialism is".
It seems to me that you have no idea what socialism is or how to use the word literally.
Socialist reform in America alone has brought about the end of child labor, the introduction of worker protections, the 40-hour work week, and wages that "literally" created the middle class. In Europe, it's also provided for a vastly superior healthcare system, a robust social safety net, and an economic environment that is more conducive to healthy small businesses than in America.
So you can forgive me for wanting a little more of a good thing.
0
u/ToothlessBlackout Jan 27 '22
Now talk about the bad things that came from socialism lmao
1
u/Jeff_Bezos_Ego Jan 27 '22
Sure. Let's just equate the incredibly broad term "socialism" with early 1900s revolutions that resulted in authoritarian regimes, and ignore literally every other meaning or application of the word.
You're one of those really deep thinkers aren't you?
