At a minimum, nobody should agree to do an interview without some level of media training.

79

u/silfy_star Jan 27 '22

We have over 1M members, many people here have more experience than these mods

They should have sent someone with actual work experience with the ability to publicly speak, that’s it, two simple things and they couldn’t even do that 😂😂🤡

33

u/C0gD1z Jan 27 '22

I’ve spent my whole career (almost 20 years now) working behind a camera and I can tell you that I know I have no business being on camera. Even though I know exactly how one should comport themselves and what to say, some people shine on camera and others falter. It’s human nature. These inexperienced jokers thought because they spend all day as keyboard warriors they could step into the national spotlight with zero training and zero input from the community just shows you how mods should have zero to do with leadership. Leaders know how to push an agenda and advance the movement. These folks just wanted a moment in the spotlight and boy did they get it.

9

u/thebronteroc Eco-Anarchist Jan 27 '22

Exactly. Done correctly, if we really felt the need to talk to Fox News (highly unlikely anyway) the mods would have asked the sub as a whole, found volunteers interested, and the whole sub could have voted on who did it. That would have been the anarchist way to boot... but we have "anarchists" who don't know the process, apparently

4

u/guitarfingers Jan 27 '22

Because that's democracy then /s

They read one piece of Marxist literature and think they're subject-matter experts now. The inexperienced chuckle-fucks.

4

u/updateSeason Jan 27 '22

a sub should never send someone on interview with MSM. If the interview shows the sub favorably they will just not run the interview if it doesn't then they will tear the whole sub apart based on one person's answers.

If MSM was sincere about reporting on a sub they can just read the posts like anyone else here. But, here is the catch - MSM will never report a sub sincerely.

3

u/Athelis Jan 27 '22

And for the love of whatever god you may or may not believe it, not Fox. It's amazing that's the place they went first...

1

u/thebronteroc Eco-Anarchist Jan 28 '22

I remember Fox did the same thing with the Occupy Movement, had some people on there and I specifically recall someone they chose who was just completely easy to pick up apart. I don't know who's making these choices of who talks to the media, but so far the media machine has been winning not surprisingly. It's all called a beast for a reason

6

u/ChaoscraftZero Jan 27 '22

If they would have had an $80hr worker and a $40hr worker with different pays then it would have been at least a little better

1

u/thebronteroc Eco-Anarchist Jan 28 '22

Honestly two people would have made all the difference. I wouldn't have agreed to go on there if I wasn't going to be done with two people at the very least

3

u/updateSeason Jan 27 '22 edited Jan 27 '22

No one should do an interview on behalf of a subreddit (period). And, this subreddit did not want contact with MSM. It was a foolish clout chasing mod.

If MSM was ever sincere about reporting a subreddit they could read the posts like anyone else and write a story; you know, do actual reporting. Look at what /r/ Super Stonk did. Whole community voted no contact with MSM and mods have followed the communities vote. No coverage from MSM on that sub, because if MSM can't write the narrative on a sub the story hurts them right in the viewers and right in the revenue generation.

1

u/MyOther_UN_is_Clever Jan 27 '22

I think one chosen representative (based on professional experience) with pre-prepared questions and answers from the community (with interviewer's knowledge) would be the way to go.

2

u/updateSeason Jan 27 '22

The subreddit did a fine job of getting 1.7 million to join by representing itself and letting outside media report it independently.

Why would having a representative be the way to go?

1

u/MyOther_UN_is_Clever Jan 27 '22

Why would having a representative be the way to go?

If they were just reading off the community's agreed upon answers? So that bad faith actors can't grab random people pretending to represent the movement and put them on TV, which is what happened in OWS.

390

u/ThisGuyRightHer3 Jan 27 '22

i think you misread... the one on Fox was a 30yo dog walker. the other guys interviewed haven't been released

154

u/silfy_star Jan 27 '22

Thank you for correcting me. I didn’t even watch the whole interview, it was so bad…

143

u/ThisGuyRightHer3 Jan 27 '22

it was horrendous, cringey, and exactly what this sub did not need. Stuttering words, hands all over the place, no clue what the subject being talked about is. it was like watching a 5th grader discuss their project to the front of the class and it's obvious they didn't do the assignment.

23

u/ImgurConvert2Redit Jan 27 '22

Damn, that's a good analogy.

5

u/guitarfingers Jan 27 '22

They apparently showered in preparation for that. They didn't even look like they showered at all. Wouldn't be a far cry to assume the never researched shit either.

2

u/QBitResearcher Jan 27 '22

Well isn’t this sub anti work? Of course they aren’t going to do the assignment

10

u/My-other-user-name Jan 27 '22

Glad there was another person that couldn't finish it. First question was it.

2

u/Prysorra2 Jan 27 '22

Edit: Apparently the guy dude interviewed was a 30 year old dog walker, my apologies

fucking lmao

3

u/FerociousPinecone Jan 27 '22

Part of the problem is you guys don't realize this sub has two directions. This subreddit used to be about abolishing work until more and more reasonable people who just want to improve the deteriorating working conditions of the average worker showed up. These folks think they have repurposed the subreddit but the people in charge remain part of the OG crowd. If y'all had just ignored this place and left it to the 30 yr old dog walker anarchists calling people class traitors and created a work reform sub instead it might have had a very different trajectory.

6

u/gay_joey Jan 27 '22

yep i have no fucking idea why people thought this sub was created by actual workers striving for humane conditions. if anyone were to read the sidebar, it's ALWAYS been about anarchism and the abolition of work ENTIRELY.

the new "spokesperson" for the subreddit (aka chronically unemployed 21 year old) is literally anti-school and teachers. that should be enough for people on this sub to realize what the intention of the mods has always been, but unfortunately people have a hard time reading and critically thinking.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '22

You sound like you’re just mad to be mad.

10

u/handlessuck Jan 27 '22

haven't been released

yet

3

u/Cole_Basinger Jan 27 '22

Oh yeah they’re coming, this train wreck is only getting started

3

u/rockem-sockem-rocket Jan 27 '22

But not full time! She works 20 hours a week.

2

u/ThisGuyRightHer3 Jan 27 '22

you know, i won't hate on that. cause i have a "full time" job and i realistically only work like 30hrs a week, and i think 25hrs is a good amount of work to live a better life.. but i think it's how they delivered it. It was this attitude of idgaf... yeah i work 20hrs. fuck you. pay me... oh and it'd be cool if i reached philosophy.

it just sounded like that one kid in college who smokes pot all day and thinks they're too smart to be there, and can't be bothered to do anything, and they blame "the man" for everything.

it was embarrassing to watch that go on live tv. and on Fox news of all news channels 🤦‍♂️

1

u/Evolves_Rapidly Jan 28 '22

I think the hours worked are irrelevant. I believe it's about getting paid fairly for the hours worked, being respected, having work/life balance that suits you as a person (some people want to work 40+ hours a week), getting PTO and fair sick leave, not being bullied into coming in last minute, being provided with staff staffing levels, bully free work places...

I could keep going but the point is, it should be a representation of any worker wether they are casual, part time or full time employees.

2

u/timetobeatdakids Jan 27 '22

Wait there was more than 1 interview?? Oh god

2

u/ThisGuyRightHer3 Jan 27 '22

more than one interview - on the way*

1

u/NotFoul Jan 27 '22

How has everyone “seen” the interview? I can’t seem to find it anywhere?

1

u/ThisGuyRightHer3 Jan 27 '22

BEHOLD!... the sacred texts

1

u/NotFoul Jan 27 '22

Sauce GOD

1

u/NotFoul Jan 27 '22

What about the kimezukae one?? How does everyone know what he said?

2

u/ThisGuyRightHer3 Jan 27 '22

we don't..on this sub the mods posted what's happening next, i think it's still at the top of it. they just said that guy is new and he'll be a mod and he made dumbass interviews too. honestly at this point, grab some popcorn and watch the cringe unfold.

2

u/NotFoul Jan 27 '22

Don’t worry I got front row seats, friend!

2

u/ThisGuyRightHer3 Jan 27 '22

shit nevermind... post is gone and when u search kimezukae on this sub you find out they deleted their account 💀💀💀 if this were a real place, there'd be looting, shootings, and fireballs thrown around. fucking chaos wild.... and on the anniversary of WSB's big moment. life is crazy

116

u/TheRebelPixel Jan 27 '22 That Smile

I dunno man... Walking dogs for 25 hrs per week.

That shit's ruff...

13

u/Long_Agency_1585 Jan 27 '22

Sad part is that they didn’t actually get any clout from any of this

Shit is ruff indeed

9

u/guitarfingers Jan 27 '22

Snd they lied about that. Apparently it's only around 10 hours/week.

5

u/smellybluerash Jan 27 '22

Dog eat dog world out there

-5

u/lidythemann Jan 27 '22

You could easily turn that into a great business. And you're doing something you have a genuine interest in which is rare.

But like the majority of this subreddit they aren't willing to put in effort, they half ass life and act like it's some unjustice agaisnt them.

They are simply low value people who refuse to better themselves, let them rise or fall. They can succeed or starve. No more government intervention. Let people fail or succeed.

3

u/AmaroWolfwood Jan 27 '22

See this is part of the problem with the image of the antiwork movement. There is a misconception that it consists of people who are just too lazy to do anything with their life.

And unfortunately, as Doreen so graciously demonstrated, it does attract exactly those types of people.

However, the center of antiwork isn't to gripe about being stuck in a dead end job and not being rich. It is about balancing the inequalities of our society. Yes a doctor should make good money, so should lawyers and programmers and all the hard working people who got education should be rewarded. But there is a disparity in the quality of life between the poor and the well off, and then there is an even greater disparity between literally everyone and the ultra rich.

So here is where the disconnect happens, because it sounds like we are just jealous of anyone more well off than a given individual.

NO! The issue is many many people work incredibly hard to provide for themselves or their family. Billions perform menial jobs that are looked down on, 60-80 or more hours per week to make a meager wage that hardly covers rent and food.

It shouldn't matter why a person has a job that's looked down on, humans have the right, and we as a society have the means, to allow a person to work a reasonable amount to be paid a livable wage.

We should not work a full time job and still worry about where to live and what to eat.

We should not have to rush through a pregnancy recovery to get back to work because they cannot afford to not work.

We should not forego health care treatment until 65, because we cannot afford to even be evaluated.

The list goes on and on, and it doesn't stop at the bottom of society. We have no need for billionaires. They are an affront to human decency and a mark of a failed society that allows the wealth to fall into a pit and become a scarcity for the common person.

If there is any denial of this, look to the housing situation in America (and across the globe). Corporations and the wealthy have frantically bought as much real estate as possible and have artificially inflated the value of homes everywhere. The rich are richer and prices have increased, while it is no longer feasible to provide for a family with a single income at even a well paid job.

Families have no choice but to work and work and work and work, often at the expense of rarely seen children. For an anectodal example, I work 70 hours a week between 2 jobs, and my wife works another 40. We are only able to survive (barely) by taking in my parents who both have no retirement savings and no means to live on their own. Both are medically retired and cannot afford their own medications. My parents provide "childcare", because we cannot afford real childcare. They are in no shape to actually care for children, so the kids are largely unattended at home, while my wife and I see them once a week on Sundays, which we by chance, have off together.

The kids grades have slipped without anyone able-bodied to help with homework and I have gone blind in my right eye from diabetes, because I cannot afford to see a doctor, even in the years when I had insurance.

My situation isn't unique. Capitalism has failed a vast majority of our population, and antiwork is about correcting that failure. It is about having a fair life for those willing to work for it. Even at the bottom of the job market, the poor deserve a happy life.

0

u/lidythemann Jan 27 '22

Your entire response is just a rant. That's all this movement is good for lmfao.

1

u/Toasty_toaster Jan 27 '22

Tell me you haven't been on this subreddit before without telling me you haven't been on this subreddit before

12

u/Tuggerfub Jan 27 '22

Never go full redditor.

4

u/DigitalUnlimited Jan 27 '22

I can reddit harder than you... omg the comments are going directly into my brain!! SO MUCH POWER!

10

u/coronafrenzy Jan 27 '22

I wouldn't dismiss it was intentional. This sub was becoming a bit too organized. I wouldn't be surprised if a few people have some extra money in their accounts for derailing things.

5

u/Confident-Arm-7883 Jan 27 '22

Not only did we have a thirty year old unwashed dog walker doing the talking, but they are a rapist as well. A rapist decided they could represent the sub.

4

u/EvilDavid0826 Jan 27 '22

WSB had the legend u/DeepFuckingValue to represent them, we had a 30 year old transgender dog walker who was also a rapist.

3

u/alwaysgambling Jan 27 '22

"Laziness is a virtue" lol

43

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '22

5

u/Serious_Feedback Jan 27 '22

I agree, this sub need to be shut down

And go where, do what?

If /r/antiwork (the subreddit) doesn't represent anriwork (the movement/community), then it needs to be replaced, not dismantled.

Which presumably means a new subreddit. But if there's no consensus as to where, then the community will literally fracture.

14

u/ThisGuyRightHer3 Jan 27 '22

wow.... someone who has a post history of fuck all CEOs/Bosses sure loves to be in power (as a mod, JOKES) and not care what the people think. sad day for this sub.

2

u/KillerCoffeeCup Jan 27 '22

Want an example of why communism always fails? Exhibit A right here.

1

u/ThisGuyRightHer3 Jan 27 '22

you're not wrong... I'd go further and say why most "movements" fail. it's this shit right here. ppl like them, that kill the cause.

i hate to say this, but this is why capitalism's "idc about you i focus on me" works in America. movements always die out and ppl quickly just become concerned for themselves and their gain. and others get hurt in the process. like i said, it's a sad day for this sub.

5

u/qwer1627 Jan 27 '22

“Not a democracy” dude. Dude. How ad hominem, how very “bossman”

13

u/silfy_star Jan 27 '22

LOL

The smallest people crave “power” the most, these people are the ones that are managers at a McDonalds and get off on being shitty to teenagers because “they’re in charge”

[deleted]

1

u/silfy_star Jan 27 '22

You either die a hero…

A false sense of superiority will do that to ya, it’s to be expected on Reddit tho. I’m honestly shocked that none of the other mods have thought to muzzle the problematic ones. It’s actually very interesting

Unless he’s the leader then OOF

2

u/ThisGuyRightHer3 Jan 27 '22

maybe this sub never really had a real direction & the people who are upset are the ones who gave it direction? if they think a 21yo self proclaimed "long time unemployed"... ok bro, i too was long time unemployed when i was young... then that says more about the sub than the people on here.

1

u/SteakMedium4871 Jan 27 '22

Also cops and teachers.

2

u/0311 Jan 27 '22

This has always just been a karma farm numbers game to her, she does not care about movement, just her EGO.

Her ego and her patreon lol.

35

u/jaykresge Jan 27 '22 edited Jan 27 '22

Edit: Apparently the guy interviewed was a 30 year old dog walker, my apologies. The amount of cringe witnessed during the brief moments of watching led me to believe otherwise

Also not a guy. That person is gender non-binary and prefers she/her pronouns. Please consider editing your post to switch to those pronouns. Yesterday, I noticed that THAT was the difference between whether a post was taken down or left up.

Basically, let your legitimate criticism stand on its own without the distraction of transphobia allegations.

EDIT: OP isn't a member of this community, they're an alt-right plant.

youre actually a shitty person

5

u/jaykresge Jan 27 '22 edited Jan 27 '22

I'm going to be honest. That just makes it look intentional. You can't claim ignorance now.

The fact that they allowed a 21 year old to go on FOX (I mean, seriously, Fox?!) and speak as if he has any experience

Dude would appear gender neutral IF you didn't say "he" previously and make the change after being alerted.

This was the problem that we had yesterday. A lot of transphobes came in to attack Doreen for being trans, and they covered it in legitimate critical language to seem like they were one of us.

And I just realized, that's what you are:

https://camas.github.io/reddit-search/#{%22author%22:%22silfy_star%22,%22subreddit%22:%22antiwork%22,%22resultSize%22:1000}

You have TWO comments on this sub prior to today.

Edit: the alt-right troll blocked me so I can't respond below, so I'll address it here.

I only used ONE gendered term, you pointed it out and I changed it

Two, and it's still there. "HE" is a gendered pronoun.

The below user, u/malone_m, is a perfect example of an infiltrator from the alt-right.

https://camas.github.io/reddit-search/#{%22author%22:%22malone_m%22,%22subreddit%22:%22antiwork%22,%22resultSize%22:1000}

Never posted here before today. Starts off as being transpobic. Self-identified alt-righty who is not here to help our cause, but to destroy it.

And another, u/keeptrollingtrollin :)

Username checks out.

  • Fresh account (20 days)
  • Never been here before today - SOURCE
  • Only posts here criticizing our members as "narcissistic" (not our mods, our MEMBERS)

Move along, alt-righty. Brigade elsewhere.

-27

u/silfy_star Jan 27 '22

I only used ONE gendered term, you pointed it out and I changed it

Dude is gender-neutral. If you’re looking for a fight, enjoy arguing with yourself

Imagine thinking comments = time/interest in sub 🤡

8

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '22

you could have just as easily change it to "they" if you dont respect their gender pronouns, you made sure to keep it as masculine as possible

if you think we are dumb enough to believe you did that in good faith... i have some swamp land to sell you in Florida

0

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '22

“Those who are most sensitive about "politically incorrect" terminology are not the average black ghetto-dweller, Asian immigrant, abused woman or disabled person, but a minority of activists, many of whom do not even belong to any "oppressed" group but come from privileged strata of society.”

-2

u/PapaMario12 Jan 27 '22

Trans women are absolutely NOT women and they NEVER FUCKING WILL BE LOOOOOOLLLLLL.

2

u/Iamthebelch Jan 27 '22

Yeah I know like seriously not that Fox wasnt bad enough but Jesse waters? The raging commentator beligerent with propaganda. One of the most unhinged propagandist on the network and your going there to explain to boomers why you don’t feel you need to work any more? Holy shit talk about out of fucking touch with the situation. This whole thing is just a big WOW to me.

2

u/Kitchen_Ferret5538 Jan 27 '22

Killed for clout? There’s plenty of common ground between working people on both sides of the political isle regarding the issues of labor in this country. The mod dog walker was ill prepared and not the right spokesman for this task. Chose to talk about grandiose theory and schemes far beyond the pale instead of something grounded and of immediate concern to the average working American. Someone much more able could have been chosen from the vast pool of people whom post here.

We have people in the trade unions, people who are caregivers, and highly skilled tech people who deal with meetings, interviews, and managing presentations every day. Those guys chose someone who was not able, articulate and definitely not a representative of the hard working people the movement is striving to uplift.

Next time, they need to try harder

2

u/WillBottomForBanana Jan 27 '22

This post shouldn't exist. It's full of misinformation, bad assumptions, hyperbole, and implication.

2

u/Glass_Communication4 Jan 27 '22

She didnt kill it for clout. She killed it for money. period. Fox News found a rube willing to fuck over people for money.

5

u/IntenseGenius Jan 27 '22

She's a real piece of work.

2

u/justarenter Jan 27 '22

She raped some people with her penis

1

u/IntenseGenius Jan 28 '22

Her being a rapist is not tied to her gender, it's unnecessary to purposefully misgenser her when there's so many other reasons she's bad news!

The mod from the interview

3

u/ginger_and_egg Jan 27 '22

The mod is question goes by she. Please update your post

6

u/Jsm1370 Jan 27 '22

The people driving WSB actually work in and understand the financial market.

They are also very self aware of who they are, what they know and have clearer objectives.

This sub, there is a level of delusion and ego stroking here. Not to be mean, but this sub is probably the mods biggest professional and personal achievement.

Seriously, if this mod came up and tried taking to you on the street and starting giving you life advice you would laugh in their face.

11

u/MasterOfOne Jan 27 '22

She. She. Please. Transphobia isn’t necessary. Disrespect them, not their identity..

4

u/JakemHibbs Jan 27 '22

She is 30. I agree that she fucked up, bad. But I’ve honestly had enough of all the transphobic comments about her. It’s entirely unnecessary. Fuck her for sure, but you don’t have to be a piece of shit to criticize her.

-1

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '22

“Those who are most sensitive about "politically incorrect" terminology are not the average black ghetto-dweller, Asian immigrant, abused woman or disabled person, but a minority of activists, many of whom do not even belong to any "oppressed" group but come from privileged strata of society.”

What the creators and warriors of the ideology you dream of killing your fellow humans for actually think about people like AbolishWork.

2

u/JakemHibbs Jan 27 '22

What in the fuck are you even talking about? When did I say I want to kill anyone? And when did I say that I support any of what any of the people in the meme you shared say? Also referring to people as what they are has nothing to do with politics. I wouldn’t call you a penguin, because you’re not a fucking penguin. Just like the mod that my comment is referring to is not a “he”. Get fucked.

-3

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '22

It has nothing to do with politics yet these are the people the corporations you claim to hate decide to prop up as the spokespeople for these kind of movements. And almost every time they do it is made to look embarassing.

I have nothing against transgender people, I want to clap cheeks with Jazz Jennings and Nicole Maines pretty badly.

2

u/JakemHibbs Jan 27 '22

When did I say that I at all supported what that mod did? The point is that you can criticize her and disagree with her, as I do, without being transphobic about it. It’s honestly weird that you’re making this any more complicated than it is.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '22

Because she has made her identity part of it. If she just happened to be trans nobody would care except conservative chuds. But in other interviews and writings, she has propped up her gender identity and her autism as causes of not being able to work and excuses for shitty behavior like rape. I'm actually heavily involved in transgender activism believe it or not. I can tell pretty quickly when someone actually has gender dysphoria, and when they're just a crossdresser who thinks telling people they have gender dysphoria is cool.

1

u/JakemHibbs Jan 27 '22 edited Jan 27 '22

And that’s fine, but none of that means that it’s okay for people be transphobic when criticizing her. She can be a shit person and people are absolutely allowed to and should imo be calling all of that out right now, but none of that means that it’s okay for people to be transphobic about their criticism. I would think that if you’re someone who is actually heavily involved in transgender activism that this would be a pretty basic concept for you to understand.

Edit: typos

4

u/Lettttttssssggggoooo Jan 27 '22

Narcisstic goofballs.

3

u/satsuma-is-superior Jan 27 '22

She *** We’re mad at the mods, not transphobes.

5

u/godfetish Jan 27 '22

The dude probably isn't even a legit dog walker. It's likely he's never had a job, lost a job, or tried to make adulting a thing. Probably just has to let his grandma's dog out a few times a day and calls it work because it takes time away from whatever game he's sweaty about right now. The house had to be a grandparents home if you look, no way us gen x or younger (his parents age) would have a lamp like that, lol. So, some bum who hasn't ever had to try at all in life, isn't trying to make the sub what is was for originally (quit working for others and work for yourself) or what it has become (this work sucks, let's quit and get better work) ruined what was a great sub either way because the mod team is full of idiots. You fucks killed a movement. Of course, by making the day old user account that's not just a mod bot, a real mod, they think we're all idiots too.

5

u/Purple-Bat811 Jan 27 '22

The mod in question as admitted on Facebook that she is a rapist. In addition, she also admitted to refusing to give a dog under her care water.

5

u/Hiondrugz Jan 27 '22

How the fuck do you deprive something of water? That's such a shitty thing. The rape is obviously terrible too. But literally holding back life sustaining needs. That right there shows how much they love control and cant handle power.

6

u/XxNukeMutantxX Jan 27 '22

Ya def living at grams and walking her dogs. I got those vibes too.

2

u/manatee1010 Jan 27 '22

The house had to be a grandparents home if you look, no way us gen x or younger (his parents age) would have a lamp like that, lol.

For some strange reason my assumption was that they were in a basement (in a home belonging to either parents or grandparents)...

3

u/StumptheWhite Jan 27 '22

What is WSB? And when did a mod go on fox? Im lost.

4

u/silfy_star Jan 27 '22

WallStreetBets

Yesterday (or the day before, idk anymore)

2

u/Business-Kale-1406 Jan 27 '22

the interviewed wasnt a dude btw, fuck that mod but she goes by she/her

For the love of God please stop misgendering this person. I agree they did terrible and are probably a pretty bad person given recent evidence . However that's not an excuse to be transphobic please use her preferred pronouns when referencing them. Just because a person did something bad,and is awful in general doesn't mean you get to be bigoted towards them.

Pro tip- Every Mod in every sub is looking to monetize subreddits.

1

u/ZenithLags Jan 27 '22

Yeah we are ditching them for a better sub r/AntiWorkSub

1

u/expo1001 Jan 27 '22

Expo here-- 11 year redditor and 40 year old worker. Been doing other people's computer chores for a living for about 26 years now.

If you'd like to discuss the US Labor Movement in a non-fucky environment, please consider visiting /r/USLaborMovement

I started it after the Fox teainwreck, when the mods in /r/AntiWork started banning people for complaining about their lies and betrayal of the community.

Stop on by if you'd like!

I ain't never gonna ban nobody for saying things I don't like-- I wouldn't do that. That's bossman union busting shit.

I am from Canada, why so isolationist?

1

u/expo1001 Jan 27 '22

I'm just trying to organize my nation because it's in shit shape. Gotta keep it manageable in this end.

1

u/drMrSpaghetti Jan 27 '22

Holy shit you just made me realized that WSB handled PR better than a literal work reform subreddit. Jesus Christ. None of us are ever working, we had all day to figure out what to do and say D:

lol

u/JungleCat47 Jan 27 '22

He's 30 years old

u/PsychZach Jan 27 '22

This is why people like my parents hate trans people. Because all they ever see are examples such as this. Apparently my parents also somehow found out they were an admitted rapist. So they dislike them even more.

Lets send a trans woman that looks and sounds like a man to fox news of all places.

You guys know that you can like make up and "girly stuff" and still identify as a man.

Society has told us for a long time they have to go along with toxic masculinity if we are to be manly. What if I told you can just identify as a man and like wearing girl stuff, and there is nothing less manly about that.

I can get behind someone like that.

My SO asking me "Is this who you follow?" this is super embarrassing.

Edit: Like Put some damn effort into being the gender you're supposed to be damn.

u/RedTedBedLed Jan 27 '22

I would have thought that antiwork Mods would not have a job.

1

u/mbappi10 Jan 27 '22

Really hope we get control this sub back before it gets taken down

1

u/RuthlessKittyKat Jan 27 '22

It doesn't have to die. We don't have to let it. Christ you guys it's fox news!!!!!

1

u/Japandaman Jan 27 '22

That interview was a total shit show. What preparation, if any, did the person being interviewed undertake? They looked totally unprepared and had no clue how to answer the questions. What a debacle.

1

u/MWF123 Jan 27 '22

I don’t think there’s any problem going on Fox News if you have some experience with public relations. It gets our message out to people who otherwise might have thought we were lazy assholes. If they had attempted arguments that could meet your average worker halfway, this wouldn’t have gone so poorly.

Instead we got “laziness is a virtue.” This is Fox News, not Reddit.

1

u/thetinaest Jan 27 '22

I agree. Imagine being okay trashing yourself sub and any hopes of it generating any kind of movement just so you can say “look! I was on TV!”

Did that mod think that people would see her positively after that? Did she think she was ready to be attacked by Fox News? Genuinely, I wonder what was going on in her mind.

1

u/zoglog Jan 27 '22

apparently you didn't know all the shit that happened at WSB lol. That came with tons of drama too

1

u/StonusBongratheon Jan 27 '22

Y’all keep saying the mods killed the community but we are all still here. Don’t let those chumps belittle our struggle. Is this a blow to the sub? Yeah a really big one. But are we really going to let that dumpster fire of a human delegitimize all of us?

Start a new sub with new mods, choose a different social media platform, start a discord. They are not an accurate representation of the majority of this community and we cannot let their terrible decision destroy us.

I know y’all are mad but damn, stop being so dramatic. It’s a speed bump and one was bound to come along, we’ve been making a lot of noise in this here sub. Let’s keep making some more.

1

u/Nazzzgul777 Jan 27 '22

I mean... i kinda gt it, but in their statement the mods said they all advocated against that interview. What were they supposed to do, arrest her? Call her to work? You just can't stop a random redditor to go to an interview if he feels like it. Not saying they should, but "allowing" them to do it is... weird.

1

u/hbauman0001 Jan 27 '22

I don't see what the big deal is. Yeah, the interview was a little awkward, but it wan't horrible.

1

u/oddiseeus Jan 27 '22

The big deal is that the MOD that was interviewed is now considered to be (by the right wing media) the face of antiwork. and by proxy, they will use the interview and milk everything that they can out of it in order to portray organized labor in a negative light. Perhaps I am connecting dots that we don’t think should be connected. Of course, when it comes to propaganda and pushing a narrative, They don’t care whether or not there is an iota of truth, they just use it in order to rally their followers around whatever cause they want them to rally around.

Now, if we’re all just about living a life without working, well then, I guess it doesn’t matter. Yes, however, we are all about working toward making things a little better for the workers then, I think it matters a lot. Things are not gonna get better without organizing. Those people that don’t want us organizing are going to do everything they can, legally and illegally, physical and psychological to keep that from happening.

COINTELPRO, in full Counterintelligence Program, counterintelligence program conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) from 1956 to 1971 to discredit and neutralize organizations considered subversive to U.S. political stability.

u/Metalhead33 give me UBI or give me death! Jan 27 '22

This is our community, not yours

Wrong. It's actually the moderators here, who represent the original, anti-work Anarchist spirit of r/antiwork, and all the people who be like "nah man, we don't wanna abolish work, we just want better payment lel" are the infiltrators who don't belong here.

1

u/thebronteroc Eco-Anarchist Jan 27 '22

I see what you're saying, but technically the mods still would have put it to a vote to the whole sub whether or not to even make a decision to talk on Fox News at this point though. Then if it was voted for, volunteers gathered, then vote once more on the volunteers. Having mods making decisions for the whole without even mentioning it to the whole isn't anarchist in the slightest. Kind of feels like American politics LOL. Anarchists don't have "representation." Just shows that the mods may have read theory, may can talk the talk, but do they put it in practice? Have they ever put it in practice?

-1

u/Stumblecat Jan 27 '22

"clout"

I doubt anyone at any end liked him, I'm sure the people at fox realized they caught a big fat chump and that everyone would be repulsed.

I mean, most of the media will edit and cherrypick, fox is especially toxic.

2

u/disisathrowaway Jan 27 '22

I mean, most of the media will edit and cherrypick, fox is especially toxic.

That's the best part. They didn't have to edit or cherry pick anything. Doreen hung herself, all Fox News had to do was provide a little rope.

1

u/Stumblecat Jan 28 '22

Sure, but I'm just saying, even if someone is well-spoken and intelligent, they'd do well to be leery of most media and shun places like fox altogether.

- They're non-binary

Fair enough, then I don't think the interview did her any favors and she should have known better. There's no clout to be had by engaging with trumpholes.

- my guy

I also go by she/her, weird how you can accidentally get that wrong on the internet.

0

u/SlowJoe56 Jan 27 '22

Thinking this was a valid movement was your first mistake lmao

0

u/Lt_486 Jan 27 '22

Dudes, this is the perfect example of modern political scene. "Progressives" simply exploiting legit concerns of working people to self-aggrandize.
