98

u/mottledcoffee6 Jan 27 '22

It's not actually their fault that they kept making their partner touch their penis... I mean, they were asleep and their partner wasn't putting out, soooooooo.....

I also like the whole, "well, I'd have stopped beating my meat next to you on account of how uncomfortable it makes you if only you would have just fucked me, but you know? Ya didn't, sooooo what's a person to do ya know?"

Edit: fixed some rushed typing.

My favorite part was when they declared that they weren’t going to name this ex-partner due to their “dislike of call-out culture.”

Like… I’m sorry, call them out for what, exactly?

Did I miss the part where the other person was doing the things worthy of being publicly called out for? Serious question, because I think my brain physically decayed while reading that, but I also don’t think I can bring myself to read it again.

Just... Wow.

Here's the thing about narcissists—they simply cannot help themselves.

Somehow they either never learned or they think they're too clever/smart/otherwise amazing that it'll never happen to them.

Kids, here's an important lesson from Grandpa:

If you have skeletons in your closet, avoid the limelight.

Unless you have real power and really powerful allies, the instant you pop your head up too high all the enemies you've made and all the people you've victimized are going to have a field day playing Whack-a-Mole on your ass.

Doreen from r/antiwork, Jerry from Cheer—narcissists who thought they were bigger and badder than they really are.

I mean, it's a good thing most narcissists can't help but self-destruct at the earliest opportunity, but as a narrative it's rather played out.

A mod gave a shitty interview on Fox News not representative of the members (the questions were fairly gentle, the interview can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yUMIFYBMnc), complaining that they work 20 hours a week (read: 10, they lied) dog walking, then when people saw how bad the person screwed up the interview they critiqued it.

Mods, in turn, decided that the best approach is to censor and ban people, whine about "transphobia," and lock down the sub.

Meanwhile, people found out that the mod in question has been accused of being a serial rapist, and has admitted to masturbating next to someone that was sleeping (seemingly more than once).

According to the very mod, other mods agreed they'd be the best to give the interview since they've done it before. Which really says everything about it, lol.

Oh, and they put out a statement where another mod talked about themselves, saying they are an 21 year old anarchist that's permanently unemployed, which many (once again) view as not representative of the general members of the sub who tend to be employed and want better treatment.

There also seems to be a real disconnect in the Antiwork message, a lot of us joined after people started venting through the sub and wanted fair compensation.

After this incident, it seems a lot of “original” members are showing up saying that we should leave because the sub has always been about not working completely and live off of universal basic income.

u/jaykresge Jan 27 '22 Silver Wholesome All-Seeing Upvote Brighten My Day

It was pretty much a perfect storm.

  • A mod decided to do an interview with Fox News, with little notice, against the wishes of her co-mods and the community at large.
  • The mod was unprepared and bombed the interview.
  • Due to this, our community was rightfully angry and began to make numerous threads about it.
  • The alt-right saw their moment and took it. They started posting their transphobic views of the mod but covered it in legit complaints that sounded like ours as a way to get their transphobia into the sub. It worked. It's still working.
  • We've since learned that the mod in question has been credibly accused of rape. While the accusation was credible, Doreen's comments have made it even more credible (think Sandusky pausing on live TV when asked if he was attracted to children).
  • The mod was removed, and then coincidently, a brand new account was made a mod. That account has since been shadowbanned by Reddit.

So this community is failing for what I see as due to a few main reasons:

  • The mod staff was unprepared and incompetent.
  • Fox News chose their target well. They assassinated the movement.
  • The alt-right brigade came in and finished the job because they knew which buttons to push.

The mod staff was unprepared and incompetent.

Understatement of the century. The other mod that took the lead role is a 21-year-old "chronically unemployed" that has also done several interviews with other media already against the wishes of the community. The mods don't understand that they are not spokesmen for the sub and still insist on being interviewed. All of this, while completely misunderstanding the movement. They are actually antiwork as in they really do not want to work at all. Meanwhile the movement is about improving working conditions for those that cannot survive without working (like basically every single person out there that i not a mod).

24

u/PentobarbitalGirl Jan 27 '22

It's so fucking stupid. People already think we're "lazy" for being antiwork and they successfully chose a person who fits that. And they proceeded to assassinate the whole point of the sub. This is so embarrassing.

I'm a career services professional who actually deals with this stuff on a daily basis - even with that knowledge I would NEVER try to lead a movement like this because it would not be my job to do that in any capacity. These people are moderators. They moderate. They don't lead. Why is this so difficult for them to understand??

The fact that a new account is just thrown into this position on this subreddit tells us all we need to know about the "powers that be" here and on this website in general. Good lord.

Damn guys, maybe we should like, vet our leadership?

Or just not have leadership, y'know, because the mods don't and shouldn't speak for the rest of the sub.

51

u/jongbag Jan 27 '22

This is exactly the mistake so many mods make, though. They are not leaders, they are facilitators of discussion and content. That's it. Basically every leftist political sub I've spent time on has imploded due power tripping mods. I feel bad for all the people here who are experiencing it for the first time. *insert "first time?" meme here.*

I really don't know what the solution is. I think an interesting idea for running a subreddit would be to have a written, public contract between the mods and the userbase that would define moderator powers and policy, and also give the community a mechanism for voting mods out, making decisions about the direction of the sub, etc. But even that falls apart because what really constitutes a subreddit's userbase? As soon as it gets popular and 1 million more subscribers show up in the course of a few months, the soul of the sub is at great risk of changing.

A lot of people here don't realize this was originally started as an anarchist sub intended to abolish the concept of work as we know it. This happens to share some overlap with exploited workers seeking to improve their conditions, but abolishing work is very different from merely raising the minimum wage and bolstering worker rights. The tension here has been obvious the past few months, and the original intent of the sub has clearly morphed. Whether this is good or bad it depends on who you ask. But it does highlight a very real challenge between the creators of a sub seeking to maintain its original intent, vs. newer users who like what they see and wish to participate.

Lmao what the fuck did I just read? They put this out on the internet? For public consumption? This is the person that deemed themself the spokesperson for a 2 mil person sub? This entire mess of verbal vomit is lacking in self awareness to the point of victim blaming and I’m just disgusted to have been even lurking here wtf

They are now a meme. And this movement along with it.

146

u/tallorai Jan 27 '22

Reading that fucking post made my blood boil. How fucking dare she try to play victim after sexually assaulting someone MULTIPLE TIMES.

56

u/Macnsmak Jan 27 '22

exactly. That whole post was just basically saying " I couldn't control myself from masturbating because you were sleeping in the same room as me. You were just laying there asleep asking for it."

20

u/KrissyBean Jan 27 '22

Ok, wait. Wtf happened???

55

u/Proshop_Charlie Jan 27 '22

The mod in question made a post in their Facebook page talking about they sexually assaulted their partner while they would be sleeping.

It was under the guise of my partner wasn’t showing me intimacy so I had to do it myself.

This include:

  • masturbating while sleeping next to my partner

  • taking my partners hand hand making them touch my penis while they slept

  • knowing my partner didn’t want any of this and knew it was going they set alarms to wake up to make sure I wasn’t touching them, so I turned off all their alarms

  • I decided this was bad and sought therapy and donated money to a cause about sexual assault

  • I now how PTSD because of my actions of sexually assaulting my partner

42

u/MasterpieceBrave420 Jan 27 '22

That "confession" made no sense either. It almost seemed like the "partner" being referred to didn't even know they were in a relationship. It was creepy on several levels.

19

u/Chance_Wylt Jan 27 '22

I think they used the phrase "alternative relationship" but I don't even know what the hell that means here? I get roommates, I get platonic life partners, but I don't get how it's "alternative" if only one of you wants it to be that way. Clearly the mod wanted sexual/physical and emotional contact with this person. Irl, that's just called wanting a regular relationship.

It seems like the other person was possibly trapped in the situation because of financial reasons and probably kept saying "let's just be friends" and this fucko was like "ok, just friend... With benefit? Just kidding! Unless..." And decided to take what they wanted eventually while their victim slept.

I don't know. There's two sides to every story, but if the other side of this story is even worse then the obviously damage controlled version, that's pretty crazy.

20

u/goosejail Jan 27 '22

Don't forget how the victim was alrrady dealing with a previous trauma, which is why they weren't meeting Doreens needs or however she fucking put it (gross) and Doreen, I guess, decided this person wasn't suffering enough and proceeded to traumatize them further.

I see they’ve also turned off the vote count on posts so we can’t see the numbers of people outraged against the mod team.

This sub is corrupt, the mods are shills.

70

u/ryecurious Jan 27 '22 edited Jan 27 '22

This is not a mod feature, all post submissions have their vote count hidden for the first 1-2 hours. This is reddit-wide. For proof, just check the site-wide top posts of the last hour. None of them have their vote count visible (yet).

It's just more noticeable right now because posts are hitting 10k+ votes in less than an hour, because there are 150k+ people on the sub.

It's basically the equivalent of YouTube views freezing at ~300 when a big video has just dropped.

Comment karma can be hidden for up to 24 hours, but looks like it's still visible after 15 minutes like it always has been.

154

u/HouseOfAplesaus Jan 27 '22

I didn’t know it was possible to turn off vote count but now I know why I see so many 400 comment threads with zero votes now. That should not be a thing. Erases whole point of Reddit by censoring.

They have negative karma here, weren't they supposed to have people with good standing in our community to become mods.

I find it ironic that I have seen posts about how we hate that others get special treatment at work if you know people in management, then the mods turn around and give their friend's account mod status.

Hard to say they were even used as a pawn. Fox News gave some of the most soft ball questions. Doreen just sabatoged themselves. It's not like Fox News gave them just enough rope to hang themselves. They brought the rope with them and strung themselves up.
