Isnt his dog a rescue? I'd much rather the president have a dog that needs an owner than something cute and expensive

3k

u/De5perad0 *Gestures Broadly at Everything* 6d ago edited 6d ago

Both his dogs and cat are rescues. First time ever a president had rescues in the White House and about time if you ask me.

Edit: Major is the rescue. Champ was from a breeder.

1k

u/bullhorn_bigass 6d ago edited 6d ago

Not to split hairs, but Major and Winston (the cat)are rescues, but Champ is not. Totally agree that it’s about time! I would love it if they added a rescue hedgehog to the mix, too.

Edit: Edited because I got the names wrong

I think it's Major that's the rescue. Champ was bought from a breeder.

u/postcardfromitaly 6d ago

Yes it is Major that is the rescue. Not that I am obsessed with Champ and Major and read their childrens book to my daughter every night because that would be weird who loves dogs that much.

204

u/Stryker2279 6d ago

there's a CHILDRENS BOOK?!

158

u/Torre_Durant 6d ago

I'm not sure, but there should be. Regardless of your political view, who doesn't think a children's book about two dogs and a cat having adventures in the White House is a great idea?

163

u/notfromvenus42 6d ago

When I was a kid, my (Republican) parents got me a book about the Clinton's cat Socks having adventures in the White House. So I'd say it's a tradition.

70

u/ClothDiaperAddicts 6d ago

I bought my kids a book about Mike Pence’s rabbit. No, not the one his daughter wrote.

32

u/Sundy55 6d ago

Bought 4, three for the school libraries I teach at and one for me, along with the lovely audiobook that went to charity. Oh good old gay marlon bundo hahaha

14

That is a great book. It must have burned Pence's ass big time.

Imagine a children's book about the Trump White House.

Actually don't, it'd probably be degenerately illegal somehow.

18

u/bcraven1 6d ago

They have one about a rabbit, Pences I think. Lol Marlon Bundo. The rabbit is gay and pence is a stink bug.

18

u/starcrossedgirl23 6d ago

There are 2 books about Marlon Bundo actually. Mike Pence released one, but the day before John Oliver released the other in which Marlon Bundo was indeed gay and then John donated all the proceeds to the Trevor Project. This was in response to Pence supporting Focus On The Family, which is an anti-LGBT organisation that endorses conversion therapy.

Yes. It's pretty good, and it is of course kid appropriate.

It's a legitimate children's book.

Ya I've learned never to trust someone who doesn't like dogs and vise versa. That goes for presidents too. Biden's a good egg in my books.

55

u/helen790 6d ago

That’s generally a good rule but I make exceptions for phobias and think it’s important to distinguish between people who genuinely dislike dogs and people who think dogs are cool but they just don’t want to be slobbered on.

20

Dogs may not understand why some human can't play with them but I do. I'm sad for them because they'll never experience the joy of rough housing with a mischievous pupper, but I get it.

A little bit off-topic, but I can't believe that the current American president's dogs have their own Wikipedia pages haha

25

u/barnegatsailor 6d ago

A lot of them have pages. Here are some personal favorites:

Washington's warhorse)

Jefferson's mockingbird Dick

Lincoln's dog Fido), where the name was popularized (poor pupper was assassinated)

There are tons of other ones but those stand out. Interestingly Trump was our first president to have no pets, even William Harrison had a cow for a pet in the White House for that month before he died.

25

u/rengam 6d ago edited 6d ago

Trump's excuse was that as President, he'd be too busy to care for a dog. Man, please. Busy going on golf trips. I wonder if he's ever had a pet. (Rudy doesn't count.)

15

I mean Roosevelt wasn't considered a hero for killing a bear but I get what you're point is. And while I agree that yeah, he is kinda the reason the cub needed rescue, it's still technically a rescue correct?

Edit: spelling

Edit 2: okay so people keep responding to this comment and I feel the need to point out that myself and some other redditors looked it up and have discovered that Roosevelt didn't shoot the cubs mother. One of the hunting guides tied a bear cub to a tree for him to shoot and he refused because it was unsportsmanlike and any animal he hunted must have a sporting chance.

24

u/Zykium 6d ago

Even if it were a "junkyard dog", what's wrong with that? Some of the smartest dogs I've met were mutts, and some of the most grossly deformed were purebred.

What exactly is their point, that the president has a dog literally anyone could have? Is their problem that it's not an expensive fancy hound, but a rescue?

They don't have a problem with the dog. They have a problem with Biden not being Trump, those losers. What a disgusting display of complete lack of decency. Newsmax suck, but this is just a new low.

I wish I know more about psychology but I can't help but notice if someone hates X, then they hate everything remotely associated with X no matter how good or irrelevant it is. If they love Y, they will support everything associated with Y no matter how evil or irrelevant it is.

143

u/wizzlepants 6d ago

It's called splitting I believe. Iirc, it's a form of cognitive dissonance allowing a person to attribute all negative aspects of something to a "categorically bad" thing, and do the same in reverse for positive. It's incredibly frustrating to deal with.

Very interesting read if you want the wikipedia article: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Splitting_(psychology)

I think it’s way easier to hate someone that way. It’s nice having a bad guy, a public enemy #1. If they’re nothing but negative, you don’t have to view yourselves as anything but a force for good. That’s why American politics is such a shitshow, because it’s a two party system, which makes it easy to have an us vs them mentality.

As a matter of fact, because of this phenemonen I need to clarify every time I mention his name that I know trump is a bad person, and was a bad president. However using basic common sense, I highly doubt that he never once made a couple good presidential decisions, or pass a beneficial executive order. There was also a video floating around about examples of the media just straight up spreading disinformation.

What’s wrong with it is that conservative-approved leaders are required to be aristocratic, since they are elites.

Wealth = virtue. Conspicuous consumption is conservative approved virtue signalling. Tan suits and rescue animals are signs of ineffective aristocracy.

May I just throw a little shade on nouveau american riche and mention how a gold plated crapper was never an issue for that crowd?

67

u/JeanLucSkywalker 6d ago

I think it has more to do with attacking anything and everything to do with their opponents. They attacked Obama for "fancy" mustard, which shows they will attack Democrats for being perceivably low class OR high class. The agenda is simply to smear.

u/matthigast 6d ago

Tan suit, Dijon mustard, Bicycle helmet...

The only reason they target these stupid things is because they like all the actual bad things they do

u/Deus-system-failed 6d ago

They didn't criticize Trump's personal toilet and earwax gollum Ted Cruz but will attack a dog. Jeez get John Wick to rip them a new one.

I switched over to Fox a few days after the capitol riot and it was literally just Tucker making fun of a CNN reporter for saying a word wrong.

Out of all the things going on, that’s what they decided to report.

58

u/MaestroPendejo 6d ago

I'd pay to let me punch him repeatedly. That face is aching to be punched.

And no, I don't think I'm badass. I'm pissed that people like this exist with no repercussions.

30

u/RakeNI 6d ago edited 6d ago

Tucker's stare that he puts on when someone he disagrees with is talking is hilarious to watch once pointed out.

I typed 'tucker carlson' into youtube and clicked the first video in the list, skipped forward a bit to a random time in the video and, sure enough - there it is: the signature tucker carlson 'the lights are on but nobodies home' stare

I used to switch to Fox when he was on when i had buddies over and say 'tuckers on right now, much do you wanna bet hes doin the stare?' and easily 80% of the time, i'd switch the channel and he'd have that stupid fucking stare on

I saw a segment on fox news making fun of one of cnn hosts because he likes to go to the gym. They said that he probably had his office plastered with pictures of him on the gym and forced everyone to go to the gym

A junkyard dog is just a dog that would guard old junkyards etc... it's not even in insult lmao

29

u/Battle_Bear_819 6d ago

"junkyard dog" is used to imply that a dog looks dirty, mangy, or angry.

Sadly, my parents watch this news channel every night. I hate walking through the living room and hearing them treat Trump like a god.

7

u/Ravenae 6d ago

Yep after Fox dropped major support for Trump in early January, my dad pretty much exclusively watches Newsmax now. I swear I hear them call Biden a communist almost every night.

Theres alot to attack Biden over. His adorable 12 year old pupper is not one of those things. Minor children and pets should be off limits.

34

The media treated Chelsea Clinton like shit.

I don't even like the Clintons but the media was shit talking a 13 year old girl over acne.

Minor children definitely, but I don’t think Biden‘s dogs give a rat’s ass what the right wing news thinks about them.

Newsmax asked me in an interview to literally manipulate old white conservatives into buying their supplementary pills and subscribe to their shitty magazine. When I looked them up (had no prior knowledge of who they were) it was this manipulative company that clearly wanted to target the elderly in my area because they have money and are easy to target using cold calls. They have their callers start by having a conversation with them to gain their trust, then they push to sell the product. Fuck Newsmax. Please avoid them.

52

I don't even like Biden but f this dude insulting his dog.

24

Seriously, there's plenty to complain about in politics, why are they going after the dog?? A weekly highschool newsletter has more weight than this nonsense.

Even then it's because he has an incestuous yen for himself and she's the closest he'll ever get to being able to...well. The imagination starts boggling.

If you can find the clip someplace where they won't get paid for your view, watch it. It's some of the strangest shit I think I've ever seen. It's not just a brief comment, as HPost says. It's an entire segment, with "expert" guests (they call themselves "historians"), shitting on that handsome pup.

Imagine sitting in your home watching this shit and nodding along...

~25% of Americans are intellectual dumpster fires that should make the rest of us concerned for the future of the human race.
