Would love to if they could get the Republicans to repeal the law that says I need to pay the US taxes for 10 years after leaving the US and that many foreign banks don't want to deal with American citizens money because now the IRS demands paperwork from them if they do.
The US poisons every avenue for escape and then gaslight you for feeling frustrated.
15
u/Shadefeaster May 08 '22
Do you make more then 110k per year USD? Everything after that deduction starts getting taxed. 99% of people wouldn't be making that much, especially if they went abroad. I agree it's still a fucked up law though.
8
u/ILikeMasterChief May 08 '22
Wait so if you completely move to another country and earn over 110k/year, the US expects you to pay taxes to them on that? What the fuck? Am I missing something or does that make no sense at all?
What if you just don't pay them? If you're a citizen of a different country, will they try to arrest you? This whole thing seems insane
4
u/Darg727 May 09 '22
US law only works on US citizens or occupied holdings. Dual citizens must follow the laws of both countries. If the country you are staying in has treaties that obligate the country to penalize or hand you over then they will if they feel like it. International law is a bunch of we don't have to do what you want us to, but we'll play nice just enough that you still try to get us to do something.

Compare your taxes to other countries with free healthcare and you'll realize there is a balance in things, here in Quebec, I believe once you pass the 100k bracket you pay around 50% income tax. You're being screwed? I'd rather be alive and in debt then dead and untreated. :)
5
u/JimmerAteMyPasta May 09 '22
I live in Canada and fully realize how lucky I am to have free Healthcare, but we don't have free dentistry. I went to the dentist for a cleaning for the first time in a few years, and it cost $500, I was seriously shocked. Thank God I had benefits and only ended up paying $20 out of pocket. Lol what medical costs? Everyone always wants to point at America and talk about how bad health care is. But what people don't realize is no one actually needs health care in America. I've had diabetes for 10 years and haven't needed a doctor once. Now that I'm going blind, I won't even need glasses. I don't have feeling in my feet. Soon, shoe costs will be nil. I have saved so much on medicine in America because I just don't get prescribed any.

Imagine the people that die because they're too scared to go to the doctor till its too late.
Not to mention part of the issue makes itself, preventative healthcare is a lot cheaper than acute healthcare, so free healthcare would be cheaper on the country. But the system is setup to funnel money from the government to donors so that makes it less efficient.

Just /u/theUSAisAJoke waking up, grabbing the newspaper, waving to the neighbor “Death to America! 😀” So, what are you up to today? “Oh I dunno, have a cup of tea, maybe go on Reddit and randomly lament about the United States for 6-12 hours? Ya know, the typical little Saturday.”

Imagine wanting your country to just keep up with the other developed nations in the world.
Criticism isn't hatred, it's an admission that we can do better as a society, if we could just come together and agree upon what the problems are that are keeping people down and hurt.

I would not benefit from student loan forgiveness, and I'm still 100% for it.
There's a good argument to be made that student loan debt hurts the economy more than the cost of forgiving it.
But even if I thought student loan forgiveness was 100% a handout, it feels like it's worth paying for the kind of social and economic mobility that free education provides.

its so disheartening when you see other wage slaves who don't evem realize or are unwilling to understand the level of manipulation and propaganda that the ultra wealthy and powerful have fed us to believe that this amount of stress and time and all the inhumane choices we must make in order to simply exist and have basic needs met. the privileged yelling over the unfortunate people's cry for help. if you can't work, just die I guess. the way we treat homeless people, addicts and the mentally unwell will be a dark chapter in our history and future generations will wonder what the fuck we were thinking when we allowed these atrocities to happen for so long as we continue to internalize the lies of the rich and ultimately make the working class blame each other and fight amongst ourselves while the rich pay for things with the monetary interest of their valuables that only grow over time as the wealth inequality continues to grow larger and larger. such a gross display of willful and weaponized ignorance. i hope one day humans can ignore all the borders and differences between us and come together as a single race: human, so that we may focus our effort to lessen human suffering and rid the world of the selfish and inhumane nature of hyper-capitalism and putting profits over human life. fuck these dusty, old, lead poisoned dinosaurs that won't loosen their greedy grasp on the majority through corrupt laws and legislators that are actively detrimental to the majority's well-being.

u/weirdkindofawesome May 08 '22
As you say it is by design - created by the super rich and maintained by the government and there is no country which is exempt from the rule.
I might sound nihilistic but I think it's just part of the human race journey towards extinction.
There are ways to alleviate the issue but it would require most of the leadership to do an 180° to financial gains which will never happen.
