Possibly the greatest shot in the history of basketball

It was the game winner too! 25-26 to 28-26

Home wears white, Visitors wear the color.
Parent or renta-ref scoreboard keepers don't hit the score button the instant the score is made and likely wait for the floor refs out of shock anyway.
So red makes the shot and the board looks like it shows 28-26 White.
That makes final score 29-28 Red.

You’re right, not sure why you’re being downvoted. You can see that it’s at 26 when the ball is in the air too

I think it might be because they swapped score placement when summarizing:
" it shows 28-26 White."
"That makes final score 29-28 Red"I thought they added 1 point to one team and 2 to the other for a second and almost downvoted out of confusion.
But idk just a guess.

You are technically correct, the best kind of correct.

I was once thinking about this and I decided everyone has their "luckiest" moment they will ever experience in life. This kid just burned his and he isn't even out of middle school yet.

I did a shot like this in 8th grade (except with proper form) and got drilled by a kid trying to level me before the shot. I got it off and it went in but bc I went flying from the tackle it was called for traveling and not counted. Still pissed about it to this day

I always love how he keeps watching it upside down lol. Almost doing a full back bend to keep an eye on his crazy shot. Can't believe it went in!

I remember being on the losing team of this exact same scenario as a kid and I assure you all of our whole team hugged that kid after he made that shot. We lost, but what a way to lose if you’re gonna lose.

u/Onlytimewilltellthen Jan 27 '23
It doesn’t matter if you lose or win when you’re able to witness a greatness that you’ll remember for the rest of your life.

I wonder if that’s teachable. Like the skyhook, might be able to develop an unblockable shot.

I pity this kid. Everything's great now, but if he's not careful, he'll end up a future Uncle Rico.

Has got to be top 5 buzzer beaters. Also, that news reporter who backhanded one(not in-game, but equally insane).

Honestly I made the same shot at the buzzer at the same age. I hated basketball and it was the last game of the “season”. I just threw it from near half court as hard as I could and at the buzzer it went in. No video cameras in those days.

Why a kid in a white jersey throw it backwards to the kid in the red jersey?
1
u/malacca73 Jan 27 '23
Excellent technique following the ball over his head rather than turning around to watch - it's all about the follow through!

u/Notice-me-somone Jan 27 '23

They can’t score more than 30 points in a game. They should all shoot like this all the time.

If he turned around Instead of leaned back to watch the ball he would have missed. Idk why but he would have lol.

These kinds of games makes it seem like they are fun. In the Deep South, cops were called on multiple occasions because some parents thought the game was rigged and started railing on the refs. The refs had to be escorted out of the school.
In the last 2 weeks or so, 4 schools have called cops for escorting refs out of the building after the game.

u/CerealMaple114 Jan 27 '23
I did that in 6th grade at my school, and the whole gym just erupted. I stopped playing basketball the year after, since i hated it and was only there because i was forced to sign up. That was the only happy moment i had playing basketball

u/sujovian Jan 27 '23
That wasn’t a pass, it was a steal. White inbounded, red stole then shot.
Why would white lob an inbound pass from their opponent’s baseline to half court with a second left? If white is shooting at the basket directly above the inbound, everyone is around the lane.
The only reason to heave that pass to half court is if your basket is at the other end. I think the red player’s half court shot was an own-goal.
