They probably could have finished a few times earlier and it would have looked better. The diamond shapes are gaudy.

No to the diamonds

Came here to say the same. I would have loved that tie-dye-looking flower design!

100% agreed

24

u/WildJoker0069 Jan 27 '23

if he would of stopped almost as soon as he started it would of looked like a gingerbread man lol

15

u/okay_ya_dingus Jan 27 '23

I totally thought they were making a gingerbread man! Then I was like wow this is way better than I imagined. Then I said “wait, stop, why are you ruining it?” a few times

Diamonds are a hat on a hat

3

u/junbus Jan 27 '23

Perfect comment

2

u/Vorpishly Jan 27 '23

I came to post the same thing, ruined it with the diamonds.

2

u/CuriousPenguinSocks Jan 27 '23

I agree, it's hard to stop self editing as an artist sometimes though.

0

u/hellatze Jan 27 '23

well its art.

1

u/AeonForce Jan 27 '23

If he would've went back and blued the diamonds again, then it may have still looked cool. But that bright copper look just doesn't go with it.

1

u/Cram_it_karen Jan 27 '23

Yup, those diamonds ruined it.

1

u/Dewy164 Jan 27 '23

Regardless the diamond are a part of the piece like it or not that's how they made it.

u/Rolling_Beardo Jan 26 '23

It’s important to know when to stop.

301

u/TealBlueLava Jan 26 '23

Agreed. The diamonds ruined it.

43

u/RevolutionarySail543 Jan 27 '23

Came here to say exactly this, glad to see I’m not alone

13

u/Deja-Vuz Jan 27 '23

it Looked like a gift wrap when he added the shape 🤣

7

u/Tight-Knowledge-5713 Jan 27 '23

Thank you for saying it! I feel like it took it from a very interesting piece to being something you find on Etsy.

5

u/brenbail2000 Jan 27 '23

I tried telling my gf that too

1

u/TheRealBlerb Jan 27 '23

That what makes a real artist

0

u/TwoToneDonut Jan 27 '23

Sign of a young artist

0

u/cockytacos Jan 27 '23

don’t act like “professionals” are better than young artists. I’ve been under the instruction of several old “seasoned” artists and their lessons were all a degree of “if you’re gonna do art you’re gonna do it my way cause I’ve had success this way” to the point of taking the media out of students hands to rework the image in their own way. It wasn’t a constructive comment on technique or composition. Simply because they didn’t like it, it wasn’t suited for the piece.

The best art teachers I had that encouraged us to work in several mediums and push past our comfort zones? Younger art teachers.

2

u/TwoToneDonut Jan 27 '23

Young in their craft, not young like a child, pardon my phrasing.

279

u/copenhagen622 Jan 26 '23

I thought it looked cool when he just finished it with the blue before he put the rest on there. Looked sick like that

42

u/IveSeenUrMomGapeB4 Jan 27 '23

Honestly, I liked it best when there was just a little blue, but you could still see the Reds.

17

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '23

Or even halfish blue, halfish copper - gives it a mysterious dragon scale look

164

u/Cmdr_808 Jan 26 '23

At the beginning I thought this better be the best gingerbread man ever

124

u/sleepingfox307 Jan 26 '23

That looked soooo cool!

And then... they went and added more, and then more, and it was like... no wait, stop, go back!

93

u/oopsmypenis Jan 26 '23

The thing about geometric shapes is they have to be perfect or they look like...this.

18

u/Same-Astronomer3756 Jan 27 '23

Username checks out...

Jk bro I agree, the diamonds ruined it.

4

u/Cmdr_808 Jan 27 '23

Were you supposed to post a pic of your bent member it didn’t attach

44

u/Primary-Friend-7615 Jan 26 '23

That’s cool, but I liked it better before the diamond shapes.

20

u/Lysergic_Waffle Jan 26 '23

Artist credit?

13

u/slayer991 Jan 27 '23

I hate it when source isn't cited. This one will probably be hard to find.

21

u/justafigment4you Jan 27 '23

Hello. This is @phoenix_flame_art on Instagram. He is a local maker near me.

11

u/lancereq Jan 27 '23

https://phoenixflameart.com for the non-instas like me :-)

8

u/justafigment4you Jan 27 '23

I got your back. As a maker it sucks when you get attention and no one knows where to find you.

2

u/ReallySmallFeet Jan 27 '23

You have TWO bots stealing part of your comment!

7

u/slayer991 Jan 27 '23

@phoenix_flame_art

Amazing work and VERY pricey! Not for your average homeowner.

6

u/justafigment4you Jan 27 '23

I have one of his clocks. It’s very pretty and has held up very well.

2

u/hXcPickleSweats Jan 27 '23

I love his work! It's such a unique art style that I've never seen before! I would love to get a piece and support a fellow artist's work but my lack of funding puts me waaay outside his targeted customer base.

6

u/slayer991 Jan 27 '23

Thank you!

1

u/Lysergic_Waffle Jan 29 '23

Thank you 😊

9

u/KuramaTheBeast Jan 26 '23

That’s pretty cool, I wonder if it would need a coat of sealer or clear coat to keep from naturally corroding and changing color, since it’s exposed

8

u/Richjhb Jan 26 '23

This process is called blueing. Heat the metal to different temperatures to get the various colours. It is the reaction of oxygen and heat that coats the metal with a corrosion resistant coating with the colour related to the heat applied. Same process they use on guns.

4

u/KuramaTheBeast Jan 26 '23

But then the clean patches that were just scuffed will have no coating right?

3

u/Illustrous_potentate Jan 26 '23

That sounds more like color case hardening. You get the blues and Browns, gold, etc.. Blueing is usually hot dipped into a chemical bath like nickel pentrate. That is controlled oxidation. That gives you the blue or black color on a gun.

5

u/AskMeAboutMyHugeAss Jan 26 '23

It gives me hope when I see good artists making their stuff in their apartments, and not some million dollar shop.

3

u/Timepassage Jan 27 '23

On carpet at that.

5

u/thiago-mendes Jan 26 '23

He should stop at 0:30

4

u/theskinswin Jan 27 '23

What song is that?

3

u/Jucrayzee Jan 27 '23

FOUND IT!

At least non instrumental version it sounds like.

Cuckoo - Villain https://linkco.re/2CdFBPfN?lang=en

2

u/theskinswin Jan 27 '23

1,000 thank yous oh great one!!!!

I would give you one of those awards but I'm too cheap to spend money on them. 🤣🤣

2

u/Jucrayzee Jan 27 '23

No problem!

I dont blame you, there are much better ways to spend money

2

u/cheesesandsneezes Jan 27 '23

Champion! Nice one.

2

u/Jucrayzee Jan 27 '23

The art is sick, but that beat is the real heat

3

u/theskinswin Jan 27 '23

Do you know what that song is called?

2

u/Thatgonzokid Jan 27 '23

Sounds like something out of The Shanghai Restoration Project. Idk if it's them, but a good band either way.

1

u/Jucrayzee Jan 27 '23

I do not unfortunately, looked around a bit with no dice

3

u/Slightly_underated Jan 26 '23

That is amazing, it would look so cool on my wall

2

u/Re92 Jan 27 '23

Better without the gold tap

2

u/steakbread Jan 27 '23

Ruined it with the gold diamonds.

2

u/Master_of_forskin Jan 27 '23

Torch art not fire

1

u/loadinglifeexe Jan 27 '23

Oxy welder by the looks of it.

2

u/scruffyhobo27 Jan 27 '23

Somewhere around 26-27 seconds is where I think it looked the best. Still cool though

2

u/Mental-Ice-9952 Jan 27 '23

Wait is the color from tempering or is it oxidation? I can't tell

2

u/Acrippin Jan 27 '23

Had me in the beginning, I thought they were making a cartoon human.

2

u/chonkity Jan 27 '23

This is Phoenix Flame Art on Instagram...I actually talked to him once and he explained the whole process to me..

"So there is some science going on in this process. I’m using pure copper and when you heat the copper it attracts oxygen molecules to stick to the copper and form a thin layer of oxidation. At different levels of heat it brings more oxidation causing the color change on the copper. To remove color and make the pattern I adjust the oxygen level in the flame to create what’s called a reduction flame and I can remove oxidation from the piece."

1

u/pigeon888 Jan 26 '23

Incredible to watch

1

u/Coin_guy69 Jan 26 '23

Do she sell it?!?!

1

u/possiblyai Jan 26 '23

Was better untouched

1

u/Historical-Cell-2557 Jan 26 '23

Am I the only one amazed by that sick ass beat? Who knows the name of it?

1

u/MrCoolizade Jan 26 '23

Yo that's lit

1

u/qvMvp Jan 26 '23

Looked so much better before they out the diamonds on it

1

u/OkLawfulness9089 Jan 27 '23

Wow! I want one!!!!!

1

u/OkLawfulness9089 Jan 27 '23

No I’ll take it before the green diamond that is ugly!!!! Beautiful for sure!!!!! Ugly green diamond

1

u/Necessary_Row_4889 Jan 27 '23

Someone’s parents didn’t waste their money sending their kid to ASU! The mind boggles at what his bong craftsmanship must be like.

1

u/Z-man1973 Jan 27 '23

When one overdoes art doesn’t make it NFL

1

u/Royce-McCutcheon Jan 27 '23

I think we can all agree the diamond pattern ruined it.

1

u/Aftermathemetician Jan 27 '23

Coulda stopped early and had a perfectly respectable gingerbread man.

1

u/Fuzzycream19 Jan 27 '23

Now let’s see it oxidized

1

u/LoverboyQQ Jan 27 '23

Use beryllium ext time 😳

1

u/Slackingoff1965 Jan 27 '23

Yup! Nix the cheesy gold diamonds.

1

u/Opinion-Organic Jan 27 '23

I definitely liked it before the diamonds. Still awesome to see.

1

u/Fadreusor Jan 27 '23

Great music too.

1

u/CrazyAzian99 Jan 27 '23

Stripes ruined it.

1

u/FaceNo5361 Jan 27 '23

That’s fireeeeeee

1

u/Valuable-Dares Jan 27 '23

Damn was thinking the diamonds ruined it but I won't say it cuz I'm probably the only one thinking it. Nope haha

1

u/PraetorOjoalvirus Jan 27 '23

In art exhibitions, they always have tags with the name of the piece, and the technique and material it was made with, like oil on canvas for example. Would this one be fire over copper?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '23

it looked better before the tape tbh

1

u/ultrahello Jan 27 '23

Stop before the tape

1

u/upvote-for-rights Jan 27 '23

I thought it looked better without the golden diamond shapes.

1

u/Dull-Geologist-8204 Jan 27 '23

It was beautiful when she was done but she could have stopped when it looked like a person burned into it. That also looked cool.

1

u/L2Hiku Jan 27 '23

Maybe if the diamonds were thinner?

1

u/NixSkylight Jan 27 '23

That's hot!

1

u/Jucrayzee Jan 27 '23

Song: Instrumental of Cuckoo - Villain https://linkco.re/2CdFBPfN?lang=en

1

u/FroboyFreshenUp Jan 27 '23

Diamonds fucked it up, they should have stopped right before applying the tape

1

u/IHaveNoUsernameSorry Jan 27 '23

Diamonds look rubbish. They aren’t even straight.

1

u/NYCWartortle Jan 27 '23

Wow. Is this copper ?

1

u/Nike_Decade_Bear Jan 27 '23

I liked it better before the diamonds but cool nonetheless!

1

u/Screwbles Jan 27 '23

Perfect piece for a bathroom or waiting room.

1

u/sebbbbbz Jan 27 '23

Diamonds might’ve been able to work if they weren’t so damn big

1

u/200BOTyt Jan 27 '23

Without that last tape thing It would look perfect

1

u/No_Hovercraft_2719 Jan 27 '23

I think it looked perfect around at 26 seconds

1

u/Why_So_Seriou5 Jan 27 '23

The last step was unnecessary

1

u/Disiapolthic Jan 27 '23

the art looks lit🔥

1

u/ArtworkGay Jan 27 '23

Diamonds ruined an otherwise trippy, natural looking work

1

u/100smurfs1smurphette Jan 27 '23

What an expense in gas..

1

u/Bodorocea Jan 27 '23

I literally laughed out loud at the end. The diamond shapes were such a baaad decision,it cracked me up. Up until then it looked mesmerising.

1

u/Stuliex Jan 27 '23

I love it at 0:29

1

u/Dortsgaive Jan 27 '23

So essentially, f-art

1

u/Practical-Ad-3073 Jan 27 '23

Yup diamonds ruined it.

1

u/Sad-Ad5704 Jan 27 '23

Pshhh how this next level I could do this

proceeds to burn down my entire house

1

u/LinoFromMars Jan 27 '23

Very pretty. But is it art ?

1

u/AhokusaForever1919 Jan 27 '23

It would look a lot better without the diamond-shaped markings.

1

u/Bastdkat Jan 27 '23

This sure does use a lot of energy to create a picture. I don't want to freeze to death because a bunch of "artists" wasted it creating "art".

1

u/Sneezyboiii Jan 27 '23

Why’d I think this was a slab of pork belly at first?

1

u/davinciSL72 Jan 27 '23

It should be titled, “Ascension of the Gingerbread Man”

1

u/Professional_Ask2375 Jan 27 '23

Ruined it with the copper. Just covered up what I thought was stunning on its own 🤷🏽‍♂️

1

u/Select-Gear3208 Jan 27 '23

I’d buy it without the added diagonal lines

1

u/FredPolk Jan 27 '23

I’m still waiting for some crazy fire ant with a hat and magic tricks to pop on the screen.

1

u/Jerm8888 Jan 27 '23

Non carbon friendly art..

1

u/aacilegna Jan 27 '23

I preferred it without the stripes

1

u/StatusOmega Jan 27 '23

There was no reason to make the beginning so sus

1

u/zymurgest Jan 27 '23

"Fine Art" 🤨

1

u/The_Cajun_Blasian Jan 27 '23

I would have been impressed with the gingerbread man in the beginning.

1

u/Grow_Your_Own Jan 27 '23

I like it just the way he made it.

1

u/SudoPuff Jan 27 '23

Amazing fire art.

Me: Oh wow they made a little person using a torch! That's so cool!
Also me: Oh. Oooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh.

1

u/flyfishbigsky Jan 27 '23

Graffiti not fine art

1

u/Dubious_Titan Jan 27 '23

That's not fine art, brother.

1

u/MrSkrimlaum Jan 27 '23

Good bot thanks

1

u/PlayfulApple8831 Jan 27 '23

Shoulda stopped halfway

1

u/RomeroXi Jan 27 '23

This looks more like a repeatitive technique than a skill.

1

u/Prestigious_Rip937 Jan 27 '23

The middle Diamond wasn’t needed but it looks damn good

1

u/YingTang1 Jan 27 '23

That's looks fire

1

u/onguito Jan 27 '23

Overdone

1

u/Sharp-Scratch3900 Jan 27 '23

Is he doing that in a bedroom with carpet? Get a shop my man!

1

u/Vivianvoss Jan 27 '23

How do i buy this

1

u/EasyyPlayer Jan 27 '23

How did he make it look blue-isch without messing up the pattern?

1

u/Gigglynight Jan 27 '23

You got to make what will sell. The shiny shit prob isnt by choice.

1

u/Zoso1973 Jan 27 '23

So many times where he should’ve stopped.

1

u/oabrego28 Jan 27 '23

Should not have put the diamonds on. It looked so much more beautiful without it. Man, these people are super talented. I wish I had an eye for things like this

1

u/SirBroAlot Jan 27 '23

Maybe a single diamond would of added depth, all of those took away from the piece in my opinion.

1

u/Ape_rentice Jan 27 '23

It was perfect and now it looks like cheap wrapping paper 🫤

1

u/manifest_ecstasy Jan 27 '23

Oxyacetylene in the house... nice.

1

u/masteronam Jan 27 '23

That's awesome

1

u/a_t_h_e_o_s Jan 27 '23

The width of the diamond strips are too thick, it imposes on the continuity of the star pattern. Still pretty cool tho and will likely oxidise over time resulting in further interest
