Thank you for saying it! I feel like it took it from a very interesting piece to being something you find on Etsy.

Sign of a young artist
0
u/cockytacos Jan 27 '23
don’t act like “professionals” are better than young artists. I’ve been under the instruction of several old “seasoned” artists and their lessons were all a degree of “if you’re gonna do art you’re gonna do it my way cause I’ve had success this way” to the point of taking the media out of students hands to rework the image in their own way. It wasn’t a constructive comment on technique or composition. Simply because they didn’t like it, it wasn’t suited for the piece.
The best art teachers I had that encouraged us to work in several mediums and push past our comfort zones? Younger art teachers.

I thought it looked cool when he just finished it with the blue before he put the rest on there. Looked sick like that

u/IveSeenUrMomGapeB4 Jan 27 '23
Honestly, I liked it best when there was just a little blue, but you could still see the Reds.

That looked soooo cool!
And then... they went and added more, and then more, and it was like... no wait, stop, go back!

The thing about geometric shapes is they have to be perfect or they look like...this.

Artist credit?

u/slayer991 Jan 27 '23
I hate it when source isn't cited. This one will probably be hard to find.

Hello. This is @phoenix_flame_art on Instagram. He is a local maker near me.

I got your back. As a maker it sucks when you get attention and no one knows where to find you.

Amazing work and VERY pricey! Not for your average homeowner.

I love his work! It's such a unique art style that I've never seen before! I would love to get a piece and support a fellow artist's work but my lack of funding puts me waaay outside his targeted customer base.

That’s pretty cool, I wonder if it would need a coat of sealer or clear coat to keep from naturally corroding and changing color, since it’s exposed
8
u/Richjhb Jan 26 '23
This process is called blueing. Heat the metal to different temperatures to get the various colours. It is the reaction of oxygen and heat that coats the metal with a corrosion resistant coating with the colour related to the heat applied. Same process they use on guns.
4
u/KuramaTheBeast Jan 26 '23
But then the clean patches that were just scuffed will have no coating right?
3
u/Illustrous_potentate Jan 26 '23
That sounds more like color case hardening. You get the blues and Browns, gold, etc.. Blueing is usually hot dipped into a chemical bath like nickel pentrate. That is controlled oxidation. That gives you the blue or black color on a gun.

It gives me hope when I see good artists making their stuff in their apartments, and not some million dollar shop.

The art is sick, but that beat is the real heat
3
u/theskinswin Jan 27 '23
Do you know what that song is called?
2
u/Thatgonzokid Jan 27 '23
Sounds like something out of The Shanghai Restoration Project. Idk if it's them, but a good band either way.

This is Phoenix Flame Art on Instagram...I actually talked to him once and he explained the whole process to me..
"So there is some science going on in this process. I’m using pure copper and when you heat the copper it attracts oxygen molecules to stick to the copper and form a thin layer of oxidation. At different levels of heat it brings more oxidation causing the color change on the copper. To remove color and make the pattern I adjust the oxygen level in the flame to create what’s called a reduction flame and I can remove oxidation from the piece."

Damn was thinking the diamonds ruined it but I won't say it cuz I'm probably the only one thinking it. Nope haha

In art exhibitions, they always have tags with the name of the piece, and the technique and material it was made with, like oil on canvas for example. Would this one be fire over copper?

It was beautiful when she was done but she could have stopped when it looked like a person burned into it. That also looked cool.

This sure does use a lot of energy to create a picture. I don't want to freeze to death because a bunch of "artists" wasted it creating "art".

Ruined it with the copper. Just covered up what I thought was stunning on its own 🤷🏽♂️

Should not have put the diamonds on. It looked so much more beautiful without it. Man, these people are super talented. I wish I had an eye for things like this
1
u/SirBroAlot Jan 27 '23
Maybe a single diamond would of added depth, all of those took away from the piece in my opinion.

The width of the diamond strips are too thick, it imposes on the continuity of the star pattern. Still pretty cool tho and will likely oxidise over time resulting in further interest

u/SplashbackDeuce Jan 26 '23
They probably could have finished a few times earlier and it would have looked better. The diamond shapes are gaudy.
