12.50/10 is the best I can do. I gotta get it framed and it’s probably gonna sit here awhile…

Wow! Now this is art. It feels like a beautiful modern twist of a renaissance styled painting. Great work, how can we follow for future pieces?

u/olwenglass Mar 21 '23
Thanks Tony! There's a follow feature on reddit. Some subs are finicky about posting links but try searching my name Hemlock Stained Glass on different platforms.

There was a stain glass exhibit at Navy Pier in Chicago. Not sure if it is still there. This belongs among them.
3
u/-GameWarden- Mar 21 '23
Sadly it closed in like 2013 if I remember correctly.
I went to see it a few times visiting family in Chicago. Was such a cool escape from the hustle and bustle of the rest of navy pier.
And this would definitely of fit in there.

That's funny you say that because this piece is actually a trade I'm doing with a tattoo artist friend! I'm getting a full stained glass theme sleeve and she's getting this.
34
u/gooberdaisy Mar 21 '23
That’s a badass trade. All I have is cross stitch to trade 😁

I hope she's also incredibly talented because otherwise she's very much getting the best end of this deal

u/KiKiPAWG Mar 21 '23
Have you done trades with her before? Or in general? If so, what other things have been exchanged?
7
u/olwenglass Mar 21 '23
Yes, I've traded for Ninja Turtles before. Yes, Ninja Turtles.
3
u/KiKiPAWG Mar 22 '23
Oooo! Why? We’re they a special edition? What was traded for the Turtles?
4
u/olwenglass Mar 22 '23
I made a baby Yoshi in exchange for a set of 7 NECA movie line 7" turtles.

Super well done! Powerful expression and stunning choice of colors. I like the green halo and all the subtle Iris and fleur de lis details.

You’ll also want to protect that with a double mounting of plex on either side too. Don’t want some asshole throwing a ball through that !!

I halfway expected it to blink or smile at me on the closeup. That is seriously beautiful work. There are churches celebrated for the beauty of their stained glass, and they've got nothing on this.

Any chance you live close to New Orleans? We have a Joan of Arc parade on Mardi Gras Day and they would go nuts for this beauty.
4
u/applewashify Mar 21 '23
Absolutely beautiful. Truly amazing craftsmanship. What would happen if one of the panels broke? Would you be able to replace that panel?
5
u/olwenglass Mar 21 '23
Let's not put that energy out into rhe universe please lol
3
u/applewashify Mar 21 '23
Damn! You're right. I basically talked about pitching the perfect game. I'm sorry. Alas, just like a fart, I can't take it back. I'm sending so many good, structurally sound vibes your way. I hope it balances out :)

This is stunning! Beautiful work.

What are you going to do with it? Actually use it in a window? an internal partition window? Wall display? or is it a commission?

I can't stop watching. The craftsmanship is remarkable! She's almost alive. And the colors, so vibrant, true to life, just spot-on. I'm especially in awe of her eyes, that brave expression seems stuck somewhere in between "don't fuck w me" and "try me MF". It's beyond impressive, it's absolutely extraordinary.

LPOTL listener?
7
u/pesto_trap_god Mar 21 '23
There is no way OP started and finished this since they released the Gilles de Rais episode. That being said I went through all the comments to see if anyone mentioned it lol. Hail yourself
3
u/infernal_cacaphony Mar 21 '23
Well, as an artist myself, believe me it’s possible. I know everyone works in different capacities but I’ve gone a long time sitting on a drawing or a song without completely finishing it.
I finally get that final push to complete it. So my thoughts were that it was at the very tail end? And possible LPOTL listener? Was like hmm if I finish this now the possibility it will blow up and I’ll get a buyer goes up.
But I imagine work of this caliber is most likely commissioned.
⛧Hail Satan! ⛧
2
u/olwenglass Mar 21 '23
No, I haven't heard it it. I'll check it out!
3
u/infernal_cacaphony Mar 21 '23
Awesome! They literally just delved into Joan of Arc! But be warned for all the truly good research they do, they are a crass, foul bunch of lads.
If you happen to see this and have time to reply, is your work usually commissioned I imagine?

Face looks like the Vigo from ghostbusters, great work!
Not looks, but just how lifelike it is
2
u/Deep-Bee-5984 Mar 21 '23
This is exemplary work! Museum quality, IMHO. Especially appreciative of the painting of her face, and the detail in the hands.

How long did it take you to do the shading on her upper lip?
3
u/olwenglass Mar 21 '23
I spent like 3 hours shading her upper lip. It's probably the best drawing I've ever done.
2
u/bored36090 Mar 21 '23
Im not big on compliments, but that’s absolutely beautiful. Thanks you for sharing.

u/o_MrBombastic_o Mar 21 '23
Absolutely incredible, I'm always curious with stuff like this did you just makeup the face or is it based on another artwork or someone you know?

What will happen to this once you’re finished? Is this a project for someone else or do you have something specific in mind for it? It’s absolutely beautiful, I don’t know how you’ll part with it.

Beautiful. Out of curiosity, where does a piece like this typically go? An art museum, private collection, private home, or restaurant?

Magnificent. Having tried this myself a little bit in a very amateuristic way I can say from experience that it's extremely difficult to get the pieces to line up like that.

The artwork is impressive, but the clear blade is just next level brilliant and beautiful. So clever and would make for an awesome signature for an artist to use in multiple pieces.
3
u/olwenglass Mar 22 '23
It's made of mirror.

Wonderful!
What would you estimate the total hours to create this? Two years with a job vs eight hour days focused on this.
2
u/olwenglass Mar 22 '23
It was a project that was on the back burner so I worked on it off and on. It's impossible to say how many hours it took but I suppose if it were a full time focus it probably could have been done in about 6 or 8 weeks.

u/IronAnkh Mar 22 '23
Impressed isn't the word. Stunning, beautiful, awe inspiring. A truly amazing craft at work.
