66

u/SnooMemesjellies3218 Jun 29 '22

Take it from me, it’s WAY better to rent/lease an asshole for short term use, than to purchase one.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '22

That’s only true if you rent/lease when new. Certified preowned is still renting/leasing someone else’s leftovers. I say if you’re gonna dabble in the product, always want something fresh and get bored with consistency, kick it to the curb and rent another new model. If you want to seriously explore and be intimately familiar with every nook and cranny, buy it from the beginning and keep it well maintained.

The irony is DJT would have never gone against Putin, but US Congress and European nations still would have banned Russian oil purchases so gas prices would still be crazy high. These partisan ppl rarely see anything but "us v. them."

74

u/No_Banana_581 Jun 28 '22

And they don’t know the politicians they worship said no to the bill to cap the prices. They know their voting base is dumb as crap

4

u/AnimationOverlord Jun 29 '22

There just simply aren’t any further thoughts past “gas prices rising bad, must be so and so”

Like there are demographics and socioeconomics that have to be considered and it’s simpleminded to round that up to one persons doing, or not considering that ANY other significant factor is at play, like a literal war halfway across the world. Just because we are affected by gas prices, does not mean that there won’t be further benefits in the future because of allocated spending (not laundering like Shell gas). That being said, it is an optimistic standpoint that our taxes will be spent well if we swallow the pill that is gas prices.

6

u/No_Banana_581 Jun 29 '22

They can’t even see who’s profiting from keeping these prices high even when it’s right in front of their eyes. I tiny bit of critical thinking is completely lost on a whole generation that swore younger generations would be brainwashed by tv and music. It’s insane

31

u/SimplyRocketSurgery Jun 29 '22

That's the thing, with the inability to self reflect, they must seek an external scapegoat for their errors. This reliance on finding external phenomena to assign responsibility to, also leads to reliance on superstition (religion), which gives them a moral justification to reject self reflection and introspection by pinning it on some cosmic power

Being a Cadillac isn't relevant, old Cadillacs can be incredibly cheap to buy, I had one for $2400 that ran fine for years. The rub here is keeping among the least fuel efficient people haulers and complaining about cost of fuel. Minivans aren't sexy but they eliminate the justification of "I have kids and they have friends and stuff."

Nope, riding buses is socialism. And besides, everyone knows they're just giant metal tubes full of demons. Just like airplanes.

34

u/Rectal_Domino Jun 28 '22

I love having this conversation with my dad. I’ve driven 2,199.7 miles since 7/4/2020 and, per my dad, I’m not a good American for doing things like walking to the store up the street, or taking the bus if I want to go something downtown. People will think I’m a poor (newsflash dad, your parents declared bankruptcy the same year I was born and we were under the poverty line well into the 90s) if I use the bus or walk.

Yes, that mileage is specific, but I checked it yesterday when I put my car away, as I wondered if I would indeed break 2200 miles.

12

u/Electronic_Agent_235 Jun 28 '22

I wish I could get away with that, but sadly public transportation is virtually non-existent where I live. Other than maybe at 10:00 or 15 mile radius around the city center. But the majority of our population is spread out in small towns around the city. It would be a lot nicer to pay for a bus pass than gas, with the added benefit of being able to dick around on the phone on the way to work.

Biden proposed a bill to prevent oil companies from price gouging. Every republican voted against it.

221

u/Talbotus Jun 28 '22

Just so they could blame it on his "poor leadership" later. It's all a game to them at our expense. Fuck every politician specially GOP.

Few exceptions

12

u/VisualGeologist6258 Jun 29 '22

That is their entire game. They do everything in their power to ensure that Biden doesn’t get anything done, and when the election comes they can say “Look, he didn’t do anything!” and the morons vote for them. Even though the whole reason nothing was done was because the Republicans wouldn’t let him do anything.

They did the same with Obama too, and they’re gonna keep doing it, I assure you.

62

u/Englishable Jun 28 '22

Just think how oil execs can influence politics by jacking up their prices during an administration they oppose knowing people will invariably blame those holding office....

Yeah, I don't seem to remember Republicans offering to buy my gas when it was $4+ a gallon in 2003 after George W. Bush started “a wholly unjustified and brutal invasion” in Iraq.

Edit: To clarify, I lived in California in 2003. The national average retail price of gas didn't reach $4 until June 2008. I had moved from California by then.

https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/hist/LeafHandler.ashx?f=M&n=PET&s=EMM_EPMR_PTE_NUS_DPG

Gas peaked at $4.062 in July 2008, equivalent to $5.40 today.

https://www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator.htm

But yes, Republicans were all about "the president doesn't control gas prices," except that he is responsible for lying us into the Iraq war. Republicans wouldn't admit he lied either.

26

u/Dirtydeedsinc Jun 28 '22

If you calculate for inflation that $4/gal in 2003 is over $6/gal today.

32

u/AngriestPacifist Jun 28 '22

Which was higher than it is now when you factor in the 20 years of inflation. Also don't forget the disastrous response to Katrina, which also spiked gas prices.

Basically, fuck republicans - you can draw a 2 point line to basically everything wrong with America to Trump, Bush II, or Reagan.

u/Sasarai Jun 28 '22

Also, the price of petrol (gas) has nearly doubled in 6 months here in the UK! It's everywhere!

I always get really fucking annoyed at people who don’t understand that oil prices are almost entirely controlled by OPEC which directly affects the prices of gasoline. OPEC can open the flood gates today and cause the price of oil to plummet to record levels if they want. The supply is there, the demand is there. OPEC is restricting the flow for its own benefit.

12

u/SuccessISthere Jun 28 '22

This right here. As soon as the US politicians started to say “we don’t mind paying more for gas if it sticks it to putin”. These asshole oil kings saw the opportunity for some fat bonuses.

47

u/oven-toasted-owl Jun 28 '22

This would never happen under Trump! /s

35

u/diablodeldragoon Jun 28 '22

The opec+2020 deal is the major cause of the gas increase. Guess who signed it...

20

u/amongnotof Jun 28 '22

That, the loss of supply from Iran from Trump pulling out of the JICPOA, and the reductions of restrictions to futures and options trading from Trump repealing restrictions put in place by Obama are a few of the major causes. Then, Republicans refusing to sign the bill to restrict gas companies from price gouging sure as hell did not help.

The main problem started with the attack on our E&P investors by Russia durring the Russia-Saudia oil war under Trump. It wasn't Trumps fault, but it started there. Once wall street lost their ass they don't want to fund drilling a bunch of historically underperforming against the market oil wells again. And Frac wells have to constantly be drilled and reworked, so it's capital intensive.

How is Biden responsible for the price of gas again? Is he also responsible for the price of gas in other countries too, because America is not the only country suffering. We are still lower than most other countries.
